ASBESTOS ABATEMENT -- <br />ROOFING <br />Section 02082 <br />15-1207 <br />activity generates fibers. <br />2. In the fiber level at the work area exceeds 0.1 fiber/cc the respirator shall be upgraded <br />to "power air purifying respirator" (half or full face piece) with high efficiency filters. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 PROJECT PROCEDURES <br />A. Initial Testing Procedures: <br />1. Workers and area of work will be monitored by HB & T Environmental, Inc., of <br />Sacramento, as previously selected by the Owner. All air monitoring and laboratory <br />expenses will be paid by the Contractor (See Specification Section 01400 for <br />clarification). Use work practices to minimize fragmentation and tearing of material that <br />contribute to increased dust generation. <br />2. Testing shall determine worker exposure level on an 8 -hour time weighted average. <br />3. Dispose of removed materials as specified in Article 3.02. <br />3.02 REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF ASBESTOS -CONTAINING MATERIAL <br />A. General: Remove and dispose of asbestos containing materials from building. <br />Remove all roofing, built-up flashings, including metal flashings and cant strips from <br />area designated on the plans as containing asbestos materials. Dispose of all <br />materials as specified herein. <br />B. Disposal: <br />1. Waste Transportation: Submit the method of transport of hazardous waste including <br />name, address, EPA ID number and telephone number of transporter. <br />2. Hazardous Waste Site: Submit for approval the name, class, address, EPA ID number <br />and telephone number of hazardous waste site(s) to by utilized for disposal. <br />3. Contractor shall be responsible for safe handling and transportation of hazardous waste <br />generated by this Contract to be designated Hazardous Waste Site. <br />4. Contractor shall hold Owner harmless for claims, damages, losses and expenses <br />against the Owner, including attorney's fees arising out of or resulting from asbestos <br />spills on the site or spills enroute to the disposal site. Likewise, hold Architect and <br />Consultants harmless as noted above. <br />3.03 AIR MONITORING <br />A. Area Air Monitoring: <br />1. Air monitoring will be conducted by HB & T Environmental, Inc. (as indicated previously) <br />to ensure work is done in conformance with fiber concentration limits in accordance <br />with 29 CFR 1926.58. <br />2. If area air monitoring outside the Work Area or personnel air monitoring results are in <br />excess of 0.01 f/cc, Contractor shall make changes in work procedures to assure <br />compliance with minimum standards. Unsatisfactory results are fiber counts in excess <br />of 0.01 fibers/cc by PCM or 0.005 asbestos fibers/cc by TEM, determined as a TWA <br />7 <br />
