Continuously check for clearance and accessibility of equipment or materials specified <br />herein to be placed. No allowance of any kind shall be made for negligence on part of <br />Contractor to foresee means of installing his equipment or materials into proper position. <br />3.03 EXCAVATING AND BACKFILLING <br />A. Excavation and Bedding: <br />1. General: Trench straight and true to line and grade with bottom smooth and free <br />of irregularities or rock points. Trench width to be a minimum of 12" wider than <br />outside diameter of pipe. Follow manufacturer's recommendations for use of <br />each kind and type of pipe. <br />2. Bedding: Provide a bedding as noted on drawing details for the full length of the <br />pipe. Bedding shall have a minimum thickness beneath the pipe of 4" or 1/8 the <br />outside diameter of the pipe, which ever is greater. Provide bell holes and <br />depressions for pipe joints only of size required to properly make joint. <br />B. Laying of Pipe: <br />General: Inspect pipe prior to placing. Sun damaged pipe will be rejected. Set <br />aside any defective or damaged material. Do not place pipe in water nor place <br />pipe when trenches or weather are unsuitable. Lay pipe bell upgrade, true to line <br />and grade. <br />a. Sewer pipe shall be laid in strict conformity to the prescribed line and <br />grade, with grade bars set and each pipe length checked to the grade line. <br />Three consecutive points on the same rate of slope shall be used at all <br />times to detect any variation from a straight grade. In any case of <br />discrepancy, work shall be stopped and the discrepancy immediately <br />reported to the Owner's Representatives. In addition, when requested by <br />the Owner's Representative, a string line shall be used in the bottom of the <br />trench to insure a straight alignment of the sewer pipe between manholes. <br />The maximum deviation from grade shall not be in excess of 1/4 inch. In <br />returning the pipe to grade, no more than W depression shall result. <br />b. The Contractor shall expose the end of existing pipe to be extended, for <br />verification of alignment and elevation, prior to trenching for any pipe which <br />may be affected. All costs of such excavation and backfill shall be included <br />in the price paid for the various items of work. <br />C. A temporary plug, mechanical type shall be installed on sewer pipe at the <br />point of connection to existing facilities. If connecting to a public facility the <br />plug shall conform to the requirements of the local jurisdiction. This plug <br />shall remain in place until the completion of the balling and flushing <br />�9 <br />
