CONCRETE MASONRY UNIT <br />Section 04300 <br />15-1207 <br />Water: Clean and potable. <br />J. Grout Admixtures: Expanding, water -reducing, retarding: "Sika Grout Aid Type 11" by Sika <br />Chemical Co., or accepted equal. <br />2.07 MORTAR COLOR <br />A. Mortar Color: Mineral oxide pigment; color as selected by the architect. <br />2.08 MORTAR AND GROUT ADMIXTURES <br />A. Admixtures other than specified product may be added only with prior written approval of <br />Structural Engineer and DSA. <br />2.09 MORTAR MIX <br />A. Mortar shall be Type S or Type M in accordance with CBC Section 2103A.9 and ASTM <br />C270. <br />B. Thoroughly mix mortar ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in accordance with <br />CBC, Chapter 21A. <br />C. Add mortar color in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Provide uniformity of mix <br />and coloration. <br />D. Do no use anti -freeze compounds to lower the freezing point of mortar. <br />E. Mortar shall be adjusted to satisfaction of mason, but only as much water shall be added as <br />is compatible with convenience in using mortar. If mortar begins to stiffen from evaporation <br />or absorption of part of mixing water, mortar shall be re -tempered by adding water and re- <br />mixing. Mortar shall not be used after cement begins its final set, and in no case shall it be <br />used more than two hours after original mixing. <br />F. When ambient air or masonry temperatures drop below 40 degrees F special provisions of <br />TMS 602/ACI 530.1 Article 1.8C for cold weather construction shall apply. If temperatures <br />rise above 90 degrees F, special provisions of TMS 602/ACI 530.1 Article 1.8D for hot <br />weather construction shall apply. <br />2.10 GROUT MIX <br />A. Grout shall consist of a mixture of cementitious materials and aggregate to which water has <br />been added such that the mixture will flow without segregation of the constituents. <br />Aggregate for grout shall be coarse conforming to the requirements of CBC, Section <br />2103A.13.3. <br />B. All grout for grouted masonry shall conform to TMS 602/ACI 530 Article 2.2 for coarse grout <br />with no lime. Also, see Article 3.09G for high -lift grouting provision. <br />1.1 <br />
