STRUCTURAL STEEL <br />Section 05100 <br />15-1207 <br />A. Inspection: <br />1. Prior to installation of the work of this Section, carefully inspect the installed work of all <br />other trades and verify that all such work is complete to the point where this installation <br />may properly commence. <br />2. Verify that structural steel may be fabricated and erected in strict accordance with the <br />original design, the approved Shop Drawings, and the referenced standards. <br />B. Discrepancies: <br />1. In the event of discrepancy, immediately notify the Architect. <br />2. Do not proceed with fabrication or installation in areas of discrepancy until all such <br />discrepancies have been fully resolved. <br />3.02 FABRICATION <br />A. General: Fabricate all structural steel in strict accordance with the approved Construction <br />Documents and the referenced standards. <br />B. Holes, Cutouts, and Fittings: <br />1. General: Provide where shown on structural drawings and steel shop drawings. No <br />additional holes, cutouts, or fittings permitted without written permission. <br />2. Bolt Holes: Bore holes same diameter as bolt shank plus 1/16" in all members, except <br />column base plates attaching to concrete foundations. Bolt holes in such column base <br />plates may be the bolt shank plus 3/16" with standard nuts or the bolt shank plus 5/16" <br />with heavy hex nuts. Use slotted or oversize holes only where specifically indicated on <br />contract drawings. <br />C. Camber: Fabricate beams and girders with natural camber upward, unless otherwise noted. <br />D. Shop cleaning and priming: <br />Finishes: Prepare and finish structural component surfaces as follows: <br />a. Structural and miscellaneous Steel for interior dry exposure (finish painted or <br />unpainted): <br />1.) Surface preparation: SSPC-SP2 hand tool or SP3 Power Tool Cleaning. <br />Where jobsite exposure is expected to exceed 6 months, SSPC-SP6 <br />Commercial Blast Cleaning is required. <br />2.) Apply Primer Type A. <br />b. Structural and miscellaneous exterior steel or interior steel subjected to wet <br />conditions or fumes (finish painted): <br />1.) Surface preparation: SSPC-SP6 Commercial Blast Cleaning. For severe <br />(immersion) exposure, SSPS-SP10 Near -White Blast Cleaning is <br />required. <br />2.) Apply Primer Type B. <br />0 <br />
