METAL DECK
Section 05300
15-1207
Provide additional fasteners as indicated on structural drawings.
7. Slag may be in place at welds to be covered by concrete. Elsewhere, remove slag to
bright metal and touch up all welds and field cut edges with zinc dust -zinc oxide
primer.
H. Installation of Automatic End Welded Stud for Shear Connectors or Headed Stud Anchors for
Concrete:
1. Areas to which studs are to be attached must be free of foreign material, such as rust,
oil, grease, paint, etc. When mill scale is sufficiently thick to cause difficulty in
obtaining proper welds, it must be removed by grinding or sandblasting.
2. Studs shall be automatically end welded in accordance with manufacturer's
recommendations in such manner as to provide complete fusion between end of stud
and structural member. There should be no porosity or evidence of lack of fusion
between welded end of stud and structural member. Stud shall decrease in length
during welding approximately 1/8 inch for 5/8 inch and under, and 3/16 inch for over
5/8 inch diameter. Welding shall be done only by qualified welders approved by
welding inspector. Length of studs shown on drawings is length after welding.
3. Shear Connectors: Weld shear connectors to supports through decking units in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Do not weld shear connectors through
two layers (lapped ends) of decking units. Weld only on clean, dry deck surfaces
4. Ceramic ferrules used in stud welding process shall be completely removed from area
where concrete is to be placed.
Cutting and Fitting: Cut and neatly fit deck units and accessories around other work
projecting through or adjacent to the decking, as shown.
J. Reinforcement at Openings:
1. Provide reinforcement as indicated on structural drawings.
2. Architect shall be immediately notified of openings where supplemental framing is
required but is not provided.
K. Joint Covers: Provide metal joint covers at abutting ends and changes in direction of floor
deck units.
L. Closure Strips: Provide metal closure strips at open uncovered ends and edges of roof
decking and in voids between decking and other construction. Weld into position to provide a
complete decking installation.
M. Field Finishing:
1. Permanently exposed galvanized surfaces requiring welding shall be thoroughly
cleaned by wire brushing after welding and then touched up with zinc dust primer
paint.
2. After erection all damaged surfaces shall be primed.
3. Painted deck shall be touched up with primer and matching paint.
3.03 HANGING LOADS
A. Mechanical equipment or other loads shall not be hung from metal deck unless shown on
drawings or approved by Architect. Method of attachment subject to approval.
7
