METAL DOORS & FRAMES <br />Section 08100 <br />15-1207 <br />protect such materials and work. <br />E. Assembled frames shall be stored in a vertical position, five units maximum in a stack. <br />F. Do not use non -vented plastic or canvas shelters, which create a humidity chamber and <br />promotes rusting. Remove wet wrapping or packing from doors and frames immediately. <br />Provide 1/4 inch space between doors and between frames to promote air circulation. <br />1.09 PROJECT CONDITIONS <br />A. Verify that conditions are correct and proper for installation of products. Obtain accurate job <br />dimensions of openings including floor elevations. Ascertain correct locations and <br />arrangements of anchorage required to accommodate work. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS <br />A. Titan Metal Products of Sacramento, CA; Forderer Cornice works of Hayward, CA; Door <br />Components, Inc., Fontana, CA; or accepted equal. <br />2.02 HOLLOW METAL DOORS <br />A. General: Shop fabricate to required sizes and shapes. Form and weld with straight arises, <br />edges and corners; surfaces free from warp, wave, buckle, dents or other defects. Use of <br />excessive plastic filler to conceal manufacturing defects is not acceptable. Construct per <br />HMMA specifications and standards (latest edition) in addition to requirements as indicated in <br />these specifications. <br />1. Door faces and core reinforcing shall be formed from A60 Galvanealled Sheet Steel, <br />conforming to ASTM A653-96. <br />B. Fabrication: Flush Doors; Type II, heavy duty, 1-3/4 inches (44 mm) thick, 18 ga. (0.042 in., <br />1.0 mm) minimum thickness steel face sheets at interior doors and 16 ga. (0.053 in., 1.3 mm) <br />minimum thickness zinc -coated sheets at exterior doors with 18 ga. (0.042 in., 1.0 mm) <br />interlocking steel stiffeners at 6" o.c. +/ /z" vertically. Faces shall be free of seams or joints. <br />Top and bottom edges to be closed with a continuous steel channel, not less 16 ga. (0,053 <br />in., 1.3 mm), spot welded to both face sheets. Doors to have an additional flush closing <br />channel at their top edges. Openings to be provided in the bottom closure of exterior doors to <br />permit the escape of entrapped moisture. Seal top edge to make waterproof using plastic <br />filler sanded flush. Vertical edges shall be beveled 1/8" in 2". <br />C. Reinforcement: Stiffen as recommended by HMMA or using any method conforming with <br />ANSI <br />A151.1 criteria for determining twist test strength or as indicated by these specifications. <br />Exposed spot welding is not acceptable. <br />D. Insulation: Door manufacturer's standard sound deadening material on door interior. Sound <br />deadening material in labeled doors shall conform to UL or Warnock Hersey requirements. <br />Thermal insulation properties to have a U factor of 0.263 (R value of 3.8) for polystyrene core <br />and U factor of 0.09 (R value of 11.1) for polyurethane core at exterior doors. <br />3 <br />
