CERAMIC TILE <br />Section 09300 <br />15-1207 <br />A108.1 B, and A108.5, and related TCNA (Tile Council of North America) approved methods. <br />Many pre-packaged thin -set mortars are formulated to meet specific job conditions. Provide <br />the material which is best suited for specific job conditions, substrate type and tile type and <br />unit size. <br />1. Wall Tile (vertical application installations): Provide a thin -set bond coat formulated for <br />installations requiring non -sag characteristics for vertical applications, regardless of tile <br />unit size. ProLite by Custom Building Products, UltraLite by MAPEI or accepted equal. <br />2. Floor Tile Installations: Provide a thin -set bond coat which meets ANSI 118.4 & 118.11 <br />and is formulated for installations requiring high bond characteristics for installations <br />subject to live and dead load. Refer to the Floor Tiling Installation Guide, published in <br />the TCNA Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation (Ref. ASTM Test Method C627 — <br />Robinson Floor Test.). MegaLite by Custom Building Products (CHPS compliant), <br />UltraFlex 3 by MAPEI or accepted equal. <br />3. Organic Mastic: Complying with ANSI A136.1, Type 1 for bases (provide manufacturer's <br />certification of conformance with ANSI A136.1). Use only in dry areas or only those <br />areas subject to intermittent moisture. ReliaBond by Custom Building Products, <br />Laticrete 15 by Laticrete, Type 1 by MAPEI or accepted equal. <br />2.07 GROUTING MATERIALS <br />A. Solids Epoxy Grouts: Provide an epoxy grouting material which meets ANSI materials <br />specification A118.3, and is in accordance with installation specification A108.6, for <br />conditions in which chemical and/or bacterial resistance is required. A non -slump additive for <br />vertical applications may be required. Refer to the manufacturers' data sheet. Also note, that <br />some epoxy grout systems are gauged with a sanded version of grout powder (filler) only, and <br />as such, may not be used in grout joints of 1/16" or less. Refer to the manufacturer's written <br />installation recommendations for limitations. 100% Solids Epoxy Grout by Custom Building <br />Products, Kerapoxy by MAPEI, SpectraLock Grout by Laticrete or accepted equal. <br />C. Grout Release: Provide as recommended by grout manufacturer. TileLab Grout Haze <br />Remover by Custom Building Products, Grout Haze Clean -Up by AquaMix, Epoxy Grout Film <br />Remover by Miracle Sealants or accepted equal. <br />2.08 CLEANING MATERIALS <br />A. Provide cleaning solution as recommended by the tile & grout manufacturer. <br />1. Acid Solution for Cleaning Unglazed Mosaic Units: 1 part hydrochloric acid (muriatic <br />in 10 parts of clean water) and in accordance with the manufacturer's printed <br />recommendations. <br />2. Cleaning materials for glazed tiles as per tile manufacturer's printed <br />recommendations. <br />3. Clean grout prior to sealing with recommended grout and tile cleaner (sulphamic acid <br />solution) <br />2.09 EXPANSION/CONTROL JOINTS <br />A. Expansion/control joint backing material: Provide closed cell polyethylene foam weighing not <br />less than 2.7 lbs., per cu. ft., and in dimension approximately 20% thicker than width of the <br />expansion joint. <br />C. <br />
