CERAMIC TILE <br />Section 09300 <br />15-1207 <br />3.02 PREPARATION <br />A. Obtain exact locations of toilet accessories before installing tile. <br />B. Layout tile lengthwise on walls so that no tile less than half size occurs. <br />3.03 WORKMANSHIP, CUTTING AND FITTING <br />A. Install tile in manner conforming with best current practice of industry. <br />B. Do not make excessive amount of cuts. No cuts smaller than half size shall be made. Center <br />and balance areas of tile. Make cuts on outer edges of tile field. <br />C. Following cutting, smooth cut edges with carborundum stone, and install no tile with jagged or <br />flaked edges. <br />D. Fit the closely where edges will be covered by trim, escutcheons or other similar devices. <br />E. Splitting of tile around penetration is expressly prohibited except where no alternative is <br />possible. <br />F. Keep joint and grout lines straight and of even width, including miters and cut tiles. <br />G. Finished tile work shall be clean and free of tiles which are pitted, chipped, cracked or <br />scratched. <br />H. Seal around pipe and conduits which go through backing using specified sealant type. <br />Joints in floor tile shall align with joints in wall tile. <br />3.04 INSTALLATION <br />A. The TCNA installation methods listed below are provided as a minimum standard for the <br />various tile installation types that will most likely be encountered within the Project. The <br />Contractor is required to provide the correct TCNA installation method for the given space <br />activity use and also for the floor and wall underlayment type. The installation method shall <br />comply with all provisions of the standards referenced herein. <br />B. Bond Coat Coverage: Press and beat tile into place to obtain 100% coverage of setting <br />material on the back of each tile. Back -butter tiles if necessary to achieve 100% coverage of <br />setting material. <br />C. Comply with ANSI standard installation specifications A108.01 through A108.16 and the Tile <br />Council of North America "Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation", except as specified <br />otherwise herein. <br />1. Floor Tile; concrete or wood subfloor, waterproof membrane, cement mortar bed, <br />sloped to drain, bond coat TCNA F121. <br />2. Wall Tile; masonry or concrete substrate, mortar bed, bond coat, TCNA W211 <br />3. Wall tile; wood or metal studs, backer board, bond coat, TCNA W244C <br />
