METAL LOCKERS <br />Section 10500 <br />15-1207 <br />equal. <br />2.02 FABRICATION <br />A. Locker Construction: <br />1. Lockers to be welded in at the seams and joints with all exposed welds sanded <br />smooth. Factory assemble, all welded construction, in multiple fully framed column <br />units to meet job conditions. Grind exposed welds and metal edges flush and make <br />safe to touch. Welding to be MIG weld type. Spot welding is not acceptable. Welded <br />units to be stand alone type. <br />2. No bolts, screws or rivets are to be used in the assembly of locker units. <br />3. Assemble and weld lockers in five foot wide units wherever possible. <br />4. Assembly of locker bodies by means of bolts, screws or rivets not permitted. <br />B. Locker Bodies: <br />1. Sides and Intermediate Partitions: Constructed from a 1 in. x 1 in. x 1/8 in. steel angle <br />iron frame. The frame has a 3/4 in. 13 gauge, bond sheared, flattened expanded <br />metal or 16 gauge solid sides welded to it. Formed sheet steel locker frames are not <br />acceptable. <br />2. Exposed End Panels: Constructed from a 1 in. x 1 in. x 1/8 in. steel angle iron frame <br />with 16 gauge sheet steel welded to the steel angle frame. End panels with recess <br />exceeding 3/16 in. from frame to have an additional boxed end panel surface mounted <br />to the frame member. <br />3. Backs: The backs are constructed from a solid sheet of 18 gauge cold rolled sheet <br />steel welded to frames of sides and intermediate partitions. Backs to be full width <br />covering all locker frames per welded unit. <br />4. Shelves: Shelves are constructed from 16 gauge cold rolled sheet steel welded to <br />sides. Shelves to have a minimum of 12 in. clearance. <br />C. Doors: <br />Formed Doors: 14 gauge formed doors constructed from a single piece of cold rolled <br />steel with double bends on vertical sides and a single bend on horizontal sides <br />(available with the above ventilation styles excluding expanded metal). All formed <br />doors to have a minimum 20 gauge recess cup. All formed doors to have 18 gauge <br />horizontal inner panel stiffeners welded to inside of door and enclosing the recess cup <br />for maximum strength and security. Inner panel height to be 5 in. for 18 in doors, 6-3/4 <br />in. for 15 in. doors and 17-1/2 in. for 36 in. high doors. <br />D. Latching: <br />Sentry I Three Point/Three sided cremone latch. <br />a. The latching mechanism is operated by a steel handle welded to a three point <br />cremone type assembly. <br />b. The latching rods are 3/8 in. in diameter. They engage at the top and at the <br />bottom edge of the locker frame. A 3/16 thick center latch engages at the door <br />jamb. <br />C. Latch accepts padlock. <br />3 <br />
