FOOD SERVICE <br />EQUIPMENT <br />Section 11400 <br />15-1207 <br />I. Concealed softwood or hardwood lumber shall be of poplar, Douglas fir, basswood, red oak, <br />birch, maple, beech or other stable wood and shall be select or better grade, unselected for <br />color and grain, surfaced four sides, square -edged, and straight. Basswood may be used <br />where fire -retardant treated materials are required. <br />J. Face veneers shall be matched for color and grain to produce balance and continuity of <br />character. Mineral streaks and other discolorations, wormholes, ruptured grain, loose texture, <br />doze or shake will not be permitted. Face veneer leaves on each surface shall be full-length, <br />book matched, center matched and sequence matched. Surfaces shall be sequenced and <br />blueprint matched. Veneers not otherwise indicated shall be plain sliced. Backing veneers for <br />concealed surfaces shall be of a species and thickness to balance the pull of the face veneers. <br />K. Hardwood plywood for painted surfaces shall conform to U.S. Product Standard PS -51-71, <br />Type I, and shall have sound birch, maple or other approved close grain hardwood faces <br />suitable for paint finish. <br />L. Plastic laminate surfaces shall be laminated with thermosetting decorative sheets in the color, <br />pattern and style as selected by the Architect. Horizontal surfaces shall be laminated with <br />sheets conforming to Federal Specifications L -P -508F, Style D, Type I (general purpose), Grade <br />HP, Class I, 1/16" thick, satin finish with rough sanded backs. Vertical surfaces shall be <br />laminated with sheets conforming to Federal Specification L -P -598F, Style D, Type II (vertical <br />surface), Grade HP, Class I, conforming, satin finish, 1/32" thick or heavier. Balance sheets for <br />backs in concealed locations shall be .020" thick laminate backing sheets conforming to Federal <br />Specification L -P -00508E, Style ND, Type V (backing sheet), Grade HP. <br />M. Adhesive for application of plastic laminate to wood surfaces of counter tops shall be phonetic, <br />resorcinol or melamine adhesive conforming to Federal Specification MMM -A-181 C and <br />producing a waterproof bond. Adhesive for applying plastic laminate to vertical surfaces shall be <br />either a waterproof type or a water-resistant type such as a modified urea formaldehyde resin <br />liquid glue conforming to Federal Specification MMM -A-1 88C. Contact adhesive will not be <br />acceptable. <br />N. Plate glass shall be 1/2" thick safety glass with polished edges. <br />O. Sealant shall be equal to that manufactured by General Electric. Silicone construction 1200 <br />sealant; in either clear or approved color to match surrounding surfaces. <br />P. Sound deadening material shall be equal to that manufactured by H.W. Mortell Co., <br />Kankakee, Illinois, and shall be sprayed by use of a mechanical device to a thickness of not less <br />than 1/8" thick. <br />2.2 FINISHES <br />A. Paint and coatings shall be of an NSF approved type suitable for use in conjunction with food <br />service equipment. Such paint or coating shall be durable, non-toxic, non -dusting, non -flaking <br />and mildew resistant, shall comply with all governing regulations and shall be applied in <br />accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer. <br />7 <br />
