PREFINISHED PLASTIC <br />LAMINATE CASEWORK <br />Section 12304 <br />15-1207 <br />noted. At concealed locations, provide tops on all wall -hung and tall cabinets utilizing <br />melamine on both faces. At locations where the tops of wall hung or tall cabinets are visible, <br />provide tops on all wall -hung and tall cabinets utilizing Exposed Vertical Surface HPL exterior <br />face and melamine on interior face. Fabricate bottoms, tops and frames of lock joint glued <br />and screwed, or dowelled and glued construction to end panel construction. Simple butted not <br />permitted. Tops and sides of tall units and wall -hung cabinets shall be 3/4 -inch thick <br />particleboard core. Bottoms of upper cabinets shall be constructed of same materials as <br />required for shelving in these specifications. Tall cabinets and base cabinets, fronts and <br />sides shall be 3/4 -inch thick particleboard core. Cabinet backs shall be finished in semi - <br />exposed material and be a minimum of %-inch thick. Dowel and screw partitions and boxed <br />shelves into top framing, bottoms or ends, as applicable. Middle shelf of tall cabinets, 5'-0" or <br />greater in height, shall be fixed. At top of counter height units, provide 3/4 -inch plywood <br />boxed subframe, mortised and tenoned, glued and screwed, for concealed attachment of <br />countertop and for cabinet rigidity. Provide toe space on floor -mounted units. For tall units <br />and wall -mounted cabinets, include 5/8 inch x 3 inch concealed wood strips full length at top <br />and bottom, for screw or bolt anchorage to wall to conform to pull requirements of Title 24. <br />B. Cabinet Bases: If casework manufacturer chooses to use cabinet bases, they shall be 4 - <br />inches standard height. Fabricate completely out of %-inch plywood (particle board cabinet <br />bases and components will not be accepted) in continuous lengths to insure straight and level <br />installation of Cabinet Bodies. Freestanding cabinets shall have cabinet ends running directly <br />to the floor. Anchorage fasteners to be neatly installed through the back and anchor strip at <br />the top and bottom, and middle at tall cabinets. <br />C. Drawers: Fabricate and assemble drawer boxes with subfront and back glued and screwed <br />into tenons at drawer sides. Extend bottom into dados with glue and screws at all 4 edges, <br />using 1/4 inch materials matching the sides and backs. Install 2 -drawer guides for each <br />drawer with positive closing and stop device to prevent inadvertent removal. Drawer boxes to <br />be full height of drawer opening. Attach drawer front to subfront with #8x1" P.H.W.S. Closing <br />Stops to be provided at the rear of both drawer sides, unless such is built into the slides to <br />prevent the drawer front from impacting the cabinet body. <br />D. Doors: Hang face -mounted over cabinet, pairs parallel with proper clearance at pull edges. <br />Install hardware. <br />Clearance Tolerances: Develop 1/8 inch maximum reveals. <br />E. Countertops: <br />1. Securely glue Exposed Horizontal Surfaces HPL to Particleboard Core at 15 psi <br />minimum pressure. Apply in accordance with glue manufacturer's directions. Apply <br />backing sheet to underside of tops using same adhesive and method as for face sheet. <br />2. Furnish countertops in the longest possible lengths. Butt joints within the length of the <br />countertop shall be neat and watertight. Tops, which require field joints shall be glued <br />and joined using joint fasteners (4 -minimum) let into underside of top. Cut holes for <br />sinks where occur and seal unfinished edges of hole to make waterproof. Make joints <br />neat, flush and watertight. <br />3. Round all projecting or outside corners of all tops (including wall caps) with a 4 -inch <br />minimum radius, or clip 45 degree angle corner. <br />4. Support clear spans of countertops using specified countertop brace at 3'-0" O.C. <br />maximum spacing. Fasten to wall using largest diameter fastener that is compatible <br />
