The RRF workers are trained to
identify different materials according to their secondary materials market.
3.1.5.1 Materials Separation Process i ng and Sorting
Current operations at the RRF include green and wood waste processing and the transfer of
mixed recyclables ~ is being added to the current operations. Past operations have
included recyclables separatio n and sorting. The H ollowing is a description of the current
operational wood waste separat ion procedures. Additiona ll y, procedures for recyclab les
sorting is a lso included since these operat ions may be reinstated at the RRF based on
mar l ~et conditions and future refuse hau li ng contracts .
Wood Sorting Operation
Wood waste, l umber, and/or brush are placed in the wood waste stocl~p i le sorting area .JQ
remove an y residual waste and then it is moved to the grinding area.; The material is ground
and processed in the wood grinderchipper and utilized for compost material loaded directly
i nto 120 cy , and larger, trailers until so ld at marlwt. The wood stockpiles are limited to a 100-
foot by -:1§G40 -foot area, 12 feet high, as specified by the local fire department. The wood
chipping grinding operations are a minimum 100 feet from the RRF building.
Recyclables Sorting Operation
At this time . no rec yclables sorting operations are performed at the RRF. However . if WRen
the recyclables sorting operation is implemented again then being conducted , wood,
cardboard , plastic, paper and newspaper, glass, and metals will be segregated from the waste
stream. Mechanized sorting may be done to process/separate the recyclables. Currently, no
sorting equipment is in-place within the RRF building. When a full shipment of a specific
material is ready, it will be loaded onto a large transfer trailer for hauling to a permitted
rec ycler transported to a seoondary materia ls marl<et. The remaining unrecyclable residual
wastes will be loaded into drop boxes the MSW bins and transported to Forward Landfill tAe
landfil l for disposa l. None of the material recovery transfer activities will interfere with the RRF
other operation ~ or the traffic flow.
