1 <br /> system with fire nozzles and hoses is maintained in close <br /> proximity to the dumping area so as to allow the application <br /> of water for suppression of fires within the dump site. <br /> Fires which may escape the immediate dump site are suppressed <br /> by use of the available water truck. <br /> li. Although no salvage is presently permitted or anticipated, <br /> the county itself is allowed to contract to salvage tincans <br /> at the landfill in a manner which will not interfere with <br /> the operations of the landfill and which will be completed <br /> prior to the placement of the two foot (21 ) covered layer of <br /> soil and the operator may salvage bulky objects so long as <br /> such salvage items are removed or caused to be removed by <br /> operator daily from the sanitary landfill site. <br /> lj . The noise from site operations is controlled by use of <br /> adequate industrially accepted mufflers on the various items , <br /> of equipment operated at the site. There have not been any <br /> complaints about noise from site operations from nearby <br /> residents or from those utilizing the site. <br /> 2. The types and relative quantities of waste to be received <br /> are as follows: <br /> The types of waste are refuse, vegetable and fruit <br /> packing waste, fruit processing waste, and nonputrescible <br /> waste materials resulting from the wrecking, destruction, <br /> construction or alteration of buildings. <br /> "Refuse" means waste, industrial waste, swill, offal, <br /> food processing waste, or garbage but does not include <br /> vegetable and fruit packing waste, commercial garbage, or <br /> nonputrescible materials resulting from the wrecking, destruction, . <br /> construction or alteration of buildings. <br /> "Food processing waste"" means that solid and semi-solid <br /> putrescible waste resulting from vegetable canning, vegetable <br /> freezing, fruit canning, fruit freezing, food canning, or <br /> resulting from a milk plant, brewery, winery, or other food <br /> processing or manufacturing operation, except vegetable and <br /> fruit packing waste. <br /> As to quantity, 1) approximately 22 truck and trailer <br /> loads of refuse are received each day from the county transfer <br /> station. Each load contains approximately 125 cubic yards <br /> of material and the daily total is 2,750 cubic yards; 2) an <br /> average of 25 householders dump at the site each day with an <br /> average of 4 cubic yards each for a ,total of 100 cubic yards <br /> per day; 3) commerical haulers dump refuse such as construction <br /> debris and tires at a rate of about 30 cubic yards per day . <br /> The total yardage per day is approximately 2, 880 cubic yards. <br /> There are no peak loadings in that the vast majority of the <br /> refuse comes from the County operated transfer station each <br /> day. Liquid or hazardous materials are not accepted at the <br /> site unless cleared through the local health district and <br /> then handled only in accordance with the requirements of the <br /> local health district. <br /> -3- <br />
