. . i
GINI PROPERTY
Page No. 3
There is one operating well used for agricultural purposes on the subject property.
A water sample was obtained from this well on September 25, 1991. The sample was
submitted to the laboratory and tested for the presence of nitrates and EDB (ethelylene
dibromide) and DBCP (dibromo chloropropane), which were soil fumigants used in
vineyards. A copy of the test results is contained in the Appendix. The results of the tests
indicate that all three substances tested for were not detected or below the MCL(maximum
concentration limit) allowed by law.
VI. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test pits were excavated to depths of 9.0 to 10.0 feet in the areas of the proposed
homesites. The purpose of the test pits was to determine the soil profile in these areas. For
approximate location of the test pits see the Tentative Parcel Map in the Appendix. The
test pits were excavated with a Cat 416 backhoe equipped with a 24 inch bucket. Visual
classification of each soil stratum encountered was made in the field by a civil engineer at
the time the test pits were excavated. A description of each soil encountered is contained
in the Appendix as Log of Test Pits.
Generally the surface soils consisted of a silty sand. Test pit #2 encountered a
moderately cemented stratum (low permeability) from 7.0 feet to the maximum depth
explored of 9.0 feet. For a more detailed description of the soils encountered see the Log
of Test Pits in the Appendix. The surface silty sands provide a very good percolating
stratum.
Two percolation tests were performed, one at each proposed homesite. The tests
were located where a potential leach field most likely could be located. For approximate
location of the percolation tests see the Tentative Parcel Map in the Appendix.
Both percolation tests were performed in 8 inch diameter test holes that had a 3 inch
perforated pipe measuring device backfilled with gravel. Both holes were filled with water
24 hours prior to running the test. The last half hour of the tests readings were witnessed
by a county health official and the test data obtained is enclosed in the Appendix. The
results of the tests indicate that the soil at the proposed homesite on Parcel 1 had a
percolation rate of 0.9 minutes/inch and the soil at the proposed homesite on Parcel 2 had
a percolation rate of 5.2 minutes/inch.
VII CONCLUSION
Based on the results of the percolation tests, the soil profile, and the performance
of the septic systems in the surrounding area, it is our opinion that the new homesites
ERSO
