FIRE PROTECTION: (Continued)
Organization of Volunteer Fire Department: The volunteer fire
department will consist of 12 persons. Since it takes 4 people to
operate the fire truck, a threefold surplus would exist, so that
fire protection will be available in the event of an emergency. An
extensive training period would be necessary before an individual
could become a volunteer. Afterwards , training would consist of a
minimum of 3 hours per month to maintain skills. The volunteers
will come from 2 sources; residences in the Village and employees
from the Marina. Currently the volunteer pool consists of persons
living in 30 residences in the Village and employees at the Marina.
However, when the development is complete, the volunteer pool will
have persons living in 200 residences to choose from.
The volunteer fire department will provide a free fire inspection
service available for each of the 200 mobilehome residences . The
purpose of such inspections is to educate residents on the use of
fire extinguishers, evacuation methods and other fire protection
techniques.
Various alternatives are available for dispatch. The Lodi Answering
Service has indicated that they can take incoming calls communicat-
ing a fire on an emergency basis. They, in turn, would broadcast
the location of the fire through the volunteers' pagers , and the
volunteers would be instructed to go to the firehouse. If the fire
is on the water, then the volunteers would drive the truck directly
to the fire boat and then proceed to the fire 's location.
Equipment Plan: "A substantial amount of fire equipment currently
exists at the Marina. The Marina has a 1950 GMC Van Pelt 750 GPM
fire truck with 500 gallon storage capacity, located in a firehouse
easily accessible to volunteers at the entrance to the Marina.
Although several fire fighting accessories need to be purchased or
replaced, the operational aspects of the truck are in good condi-
tion. We plan to have the Stockton Fire Department test the engine
and make sure it meets regulations. Finally, the Marina has a 1955
Chevy truck with fire extinguishers and a 250 GPM pump that can be
used in conjuntion with the fire truck. This truck can take water
from the river and pump it to the fire truck in places that cannot
be covered by a fire hydrant or siphon pipe. In summary, the Marina
possesses an inventory of fire fighting equipment sufficient to form
the nucleus of a voluntary fire department responsible for servicing
the Marina and the Village. "
Although the Marina has a substantial amount of fire equipment, the
volunteer fire department will need some additional equipment. The
following list of items will be needed for the fire truck to meet
MFPA 19 automotive fire standards apparatus:
150 feet , 1-1/2 inch live line plus 1 fog nozzle.
100 feet, 1 -1/2 inch lead line plus 1 fog nozzle and a 2-1/2 inch to
1-1/4 inch gatted wye.
100 feet, 1 -1/2 inch lead line plus 1 fog nozzle.
Page 9 of 10 File No. 021051SA-F00
r
