WESTERN PUMP
Petroleum & Lubrication Equipment Specialists
Employee Responsibilities
Employees may not refuse a post-accident screen on the grounds that they believe the criteria
necessary to establish a screenable work related accident has not been met. An employee subject to
screening who fails to remain readily available to have specimens collected may be deemed by the
employer to have refused to submit to the screen . Employees may leave the accident scene to seek
medical assistance or emergency medical care as necessary to protect and preserve their health and
safety or that of an accident victim .
Any employee subject to screening may not consume or ingest any ethyl alcohol for eight hours after
an accident or until the alcohol screen has been conducted .
The results of a blood or breath screen for alcohol by law enforcement authorities will be accepted as
meeting the alcohol requirements of this program .
Reasonable Suspicion/Cause
You are required to submit to any test (whether drug , alcohol or both) that a supervisor requests
based on reasonable suspicion . Reasonable suspicion means that one or more trained supervisors
reasonably believes or suspects that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol . They cannot
require testing based on a hunch or guess alone; their suspicion must be based on observations
concerning your appearance, behavior, speech and smell that are usually associated with drug or
alcohol use . Reasonable cause to suspect a violation of the policy may be established by any of the
following :
1 . Observed impairment of job performance .
2 . Uncharacteristic or erratic behavior.
3. The employee's attendance changes , e.g . , habitual absenteeism .
4 . Direct observation (by manager, supervisor, or other employee) of drug or alcohol use or
possession during working hours or while on company premises.
3235 "F" Street, San Diego , CA 92102-3315 * 619-239-9988 Fax 619-239-9925
www.westernpump . com
California Contractor's License #673853
California Certified Small Business #33547
