B. COLLECTION (JOB DESCRIPTION/PROCEDURES)
All personnel working on the site are trained as described in the Health
& Safety Plan. Staff will arrive at the site at least one hour before the
collection begins to ensure all set-up is ready for opening. Any time a worker
needs to leave the waste processing area, he/she must notify the Site
Supervisor or the Assistant Supervisor and decontaminate himself/herself.
There are also a few work practices that need to be followed to assure
the safety of all workers on-site:
a) No smoking (due to fire danger);
b) No food or drink will be stored or consumed within the work area.
c) Be familiar with the location of the emergency shower, eyewash,
fire extinguishers, and first aid kit;
d) Know where the Supervisor or assistant Supervisor is at all times
in case of emergency;
e) Pay attention to all the safety procedures.
Acceptance of waste from CESQG customers will be done either
during different hours than HHW waste acceptance, or the CESQG customers
will be directed to a receiving area, separate from the HHW receiving area.
The Philip staff will process any vehicles still in line at closing time then finish
packaging the waste. Once this is accomplished they will prepare all waste for
shipment. All waste will be shipped off site within 144 hours of closing. The
site will be restored to its original condition within 144 hours.
On-site personnel will be required to work until all waste is packaged,
loaded, shipped, and the site secured. Check with the Site Supervisor or
Assistant Site Supervisor before leaving. An important thing to remember
while working at a hazardous waste collection event is that you are in the
public eye. The success of the program, in part, is how well we serve the
public. Therefore, when you are dealing with the people do so professionally,
courteously, and quickly.
Each person should read and understand the job description and procedures following.-
1.
ollowing:
1. Site Supervisor
The Site Supervisor will organize and oversee all aspects of the
collection. Namely, the screening, unloading, sorting, and processing of the
waste. He/she will also supervise the set-up and removal of equipment from
the site.
A site-specific training session will be held by the Supervisor before the
site is open. He/she serves as the ultimate authority on waste classification and
safety on the site.
Throughout the collection, the Site Supervisor will inspect all drums
for proper seal and labeling. The Site Supervisor is responsible for manifesting
and loading the waste at the end of the event.
