3. Run the drain line to a suitable waste outlet, such as a
laundry tub, floor drain, or stand pipe. To prevent back -
siphoning of drain contents, an air gap is desirable and
is required by law in most states. PROTECT THE
DRAIN LINE FROM FREEZING TEMPERATURES!
4. Cut the drain line to the required length, observing the
drain line length limitations in Table 3.
HARD WATER BYPASS - Duplex Models
Single Hi -Flo® 2 water softeners are designed to provide an
uninterrupted supply of water to service by bypassing hard
water to service during the regeneration cycle. Duplex mod-
els may be set up to eliminate the hard water bypass so that
one tank delivers soft water while the other tank is
recharging.
5. Secure the end of the drain line to an immovable object Using the Duplex Kit (included with duplex systems),
to prevent its being forced out of place during recharge PN 00-4478-70, modify both controls as follows:
(Fig. 16).
1. Remove the three bolts holding the valve to the tank
NOTICE: If the drain line must be elevated, a loop in the bracket (Fig. 17).
end will prevent the drain line from emptying and will pre-
vent splashing at the beginning of the next recharge 2. A. PV -A units - Grasp the timer plate and carefully slide
(Fig. 16). the control assembly forward (Fig. 17).
FILLING THE SALT STORAGE CONTAINER
Fill the salt storage container with water until the level is
about one inch (3 cm) above the salt plate. Fill to within a
few inches of the top of the container with a good grade of
salt.
B. PV -B units - The k -PakT, adapter elbows have
special plates locking the elbows to the bracket to pre-
vent leaks. To unlock the elbows, push both elbows up
while carefully pulling the control assembly forward (Fig.
18). After unlocking the control assembly up and off
the bracket.
TABLE 3
MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE DRAIN LINE LENGTH
Height of Discharge Above Floor Level Operating
Operating
O ft 2 ft 4 ft
6 ft
8 ft
loft
Pressure
(0 m) (0.6 m) (1.2 m)
(1.8 m)
(2.4 m)
(3 m)
30 psi (210 kPa)
60 ft (18 m) 50 ft (15 m) 30 ft (9 m)
15 ft (5 m)
Not allowable
Not allowable
40 psi (279 kPa)
100 ft (30 m) 90 ft (27 m) 70 ft (21 m)
50 ft (15 m)
30 ft (9 m)
12 ft (4 m)
50 psi (349 kPa)
145 ft (41 m) 115 ft (35 m) 80 ft (24 m)
80 ft (24 m)
60 ft (18 m)
40 ft (12 m)
60 psi (419 kPa)
100 ft (30 m)
100 ft (30 m)
85 ft (26 m)
60 ft (18 m)
80 psi (559 kPa) Normal installation should not require
140 ft (43 m)
120 ft (37 m)
100 psi (699 kPa)
more than 100 ft (30 m) of drain line
150 ft (46 m)
FIG. 16f
14 / HI-FLO 2 WATER SOFTENER
COUPLING
ADAPTERS
FIG. 17
,,
3
FIG. 17
