Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
23 February 2022
Page 2
Nestle Response:
Existing probes SV-107,SV-122, and SV-123 will be sampled at the same time as the proposed probes
SV-131 and SV-132.The soil vapor sampling will be coordinated to coincide with the collection of
building-specific crawlspace and/or indoor air samples.
Water Board Comment 2:
Issue:Similar to Comment 1, it is unclear if Nestle plans to coordinate indoor air samples from the
residential building crowlspaces or indoor air samples with the soil vapor probe sampling in the Walnut
Avenue area(SV-113,SV-114, SV-126, and SV-127).
Requested Action:Central Valley Water Board staff recommend that the nearby probes SV-113, SV-114,
SV-126 and SV-127 are sampled concurrently with nearby residential building-specific crawlspace and/or
indoor air samples to correlate the results.
Nestle Response:
Existing probes SV-113,SV-114,SV-126, and SV-127 will be sampled concurrently with the building-
specific crawlspace and/or indoor air samples for the nearby residences.
Water Board Comment 3:
Issue:Section 4.3 states: "Up to two indoor air samples may be collected from residential buildings..."It
is unclear to Central Valley Water Board staff if this statement means 1)only two residential buildings
will be sampled one time during one event, 2)each selected residential building will have two samples
taken at the some time during one event(i.e., crawlspace and/or indoor air), or 3)each residential
building will be sampled twice spaced approximately six months apart(i.e., seasonality sampling).
Requested Action: Central Valley Water Board staff request clarification regarding 1) the number of
residential buildings to be sampled, 2)the number of samples that will be collected during a specific
sampling event and 3)the total number of sampling events.
Nestle Response:
the final number of residences to be sampled will depend on the responses from the various
homeowners;eight residences will be initially contacted in the area. The residences selected for
evaluation may have up to two crawlspace and/or indoor air samples collected from different parts of
the building during a single sampling event. Note that the ultimate number of samples collected for each
residence will be based on the results of the individual building inspection. One sampling event is
planned, after which the results will be discussed with the Water Board.
Water Board Comment 4:
Issue:Similarly to Comment 3,section 4.3 also states: "...and up to three indoor air samples may be
collected from commercial/industrial buildings."Four building are retained in the downtown area, but
the VI Work Plan states only three indoor air samples may be collected from commercial/industrial
buildings. It is unclear if this statement means 1)only three of the four commercial/industrial buildings
will be sampled one time during one event, 2)all four of the selected commercial/industrial building will
have three samples collected at the some time during one event(i.e., crawlspace and/or indoor air), or
HkM
ICH
