obtained. Monitoring wells three, four and five were installed
west of solar evaporation ponds one through four. These wells
were installed to depths of 40 feet below ground surface and were
perforated throughout their entire length (minus the surface
seal) ; this well design and construction was intended to monitor
for lateral migration of fluids in the shallow subsurface down-
gradient from the evaporation ponds . The wells have always been
dry. They continue to show no evidence of fluids hence, there is
no indication of lateral migration of fluid wastes from ponds one
through four.
Monitoring wells seven, eight and nine were installed to
shallowest ground water in the perimeter areas surrounding the
Group 1 disposal trenches. These wells were intended to replace
monitoring wells one, two and three when they went dry. The
construction of monitoring wells seven, eight and nine were
intended to monitor shallowest ground water which occurs at
depths of approximately 100 feet below ground surface at the
site. None of the deep monitoring wells have ever shown evidence
of groundwater contamination.
During fall of 1981, the farmer who farms the acreage adjacent
to the site accidentally plowed under monitoring well eight.
This monitoring well has not been relocated and as soon as site
access makes it possible, monitoring well eight will be replaced.
-10-
