MR. BOB FUJII
May 2, 1983
Page Two
The work proposed for completion in the step below is
referenced by. number to the order received in your letter
dated 12 April, 1983.
1. We have scheduled delivery of the necessary
supplies and a .drill rig to commence install
ation of monitoring wells #10 through #14 on
Monday, May 2, 1983. We anticipate the monitoring
well construction program will require between
7' and 8 working days for completion. The
monitoring wells will be constructed of 3 inch
PVC pipe with factory slotted perforations in
the saturated interval at approximately 100 feet
below ground surface. We attempted to schedule
construction of 4 inch monitoring wells as suggested
in your recent memorandum (from Fujii to Pinkos
dated. 14 April, 1983) , however, we have been
unable to schedule or locate' a. drilling rig which
can drill large enough diameter holes using
continuous flight augers to permit installation
of 4 inch casing. We have discussed the alter
native of using 3 inch PVC casing with Mr. Harold
Eagle of the State Water Resources Control Board
and Mr. Robert Fujii of your staff and each has
indicated that 3 inch casing will be acceptable.
2. A meeting was held with our excavation contractor
on April 25, 1983 at which time we received cost
estimates and schedules for completion of Group I
Disposal Trench #4. The contractor has agreed
to move equipment onto the site during the week
of May 2, 1983 if weather conditions permit.
Immediately following our meeting however,
additional rain was forecast for the week of
April 25 and we cannot guarantee the work will
commence as scheduled. The contractor estimates
that approximately 8 to 9 working days will .be
required to complete Disposal Trench #4. We
anticipate completion of Trench #4 within 30
days.
3. Area evaporation ponds #1 through #5 have received
sufficient evaporation to reestablish between 1. 5
and 2 feet freeboard in all ponds. At present we
do not anticipate reconstruction or operation of
these ponds. It is our intention to eliminate
Solar Evaporation Ponds #1 through #5 and excavate
