SOP-010 Standard Operating Procedure <br />Well Construction Page 3 of 11 Revision No. 0 March 2020 <br /> <br />Sharpe Army Depot <br />Annular Space <br />The space between any of the following: <br />• Concentric drill pipes <br />• An inner drill pipe and outer drive casing <br />• Drill pipe or drive casing and the borehole wall <br />• Well screen or casing and the borehole wall <br />Filter Pack <br />Granular filter material (sand, gravel, etc.) placed in the annular space between the well screen and the borehole to increase the effective diameter of the well and prevent fine-grained material from entering the well. <br />Well Screen <br />A perforated, wire-wound, continuous wrap, or slotted casing segment used in a well to maximize the entry of water from the producing zone and to minimize the entrance of sand. <br />Tremie <br />A tubular device or pipe used to place grout, bentonite, or filter pack in the annular space. <br />4.0 Procedures <br />This section contains procedures for installing monitoring or extraction wells using mud rotary, air rotary, air rotary casing hammer, dual tube percussion, or hollow-stem auger drilling techniques. <br />4.1 Planning <br />Site-specific factors must be considered in the selection of well construction and completion materials, specification of well designs, and well-drilling methods. These factors will be incorporated into project planning activities and the compilation of specific project work plans: <br />• Objectives of the monitoring well or extraction well <br />• Specific location of the well to be installed <br />• Zone or depth well is to be installed <br />• Drilling method(s) to be used <br />• Well construction materials to be used <br />• Specification of well design(s) including Well Construction Diagrams (See Work Plan) <br />• Additional procedures or requirements beyond this SOP <br />4.2 Preparation <br />4.2.1 Ensure Clearance <br />Before mobilization of a rig to the well site, ensure that the monitoring well location has been appropriately cleared of all underground utilities, buried objects, and drill permits have been issued per
