DEFINITIONS OF MEDICAL WASTE BY TYPE <br />Medical waste that may be generated or handled at a Lodi Memorial Hospital facility consists of biohazardous <br />waste and sharps waste. These wastes are: <br />• BLOOD OR BODY FLUIDS; Fluid blood, other body fluids or items contaminated with blood including <br />containers or discarded equipment containing fluid blood and all materials contaminated with body waste, <br />secretions or vomitus where blood is recognized. <br />• SHARPS; Syringes, needles, blades, and broken glass. <br />• ISOLATION WASTE; Waste contaminated with excretion, exudate, or secretions from humans who are <br />isolated due to highly communicable diseases. <br />• CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC WASTE; Trace amounts of chemotherapeutic waste. <br />• TRAUMA SCENE WASTE; Waste that may be collected at times when ambulance service providers and other <br />emergency responders deliver patients for medical attention. <br />• PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE; Waste medications whether partial dose, empty vial or any and all such waste <br />that contains medications with the exception of chemotherapeutics. <br />Lodi Memorial Hospital does not generate PATHOLOGY WASTE. All human anatomical parts, surgery specimens <br />and tissues are transferred from the hospital by Smith -Kline Laboratories for analysis by Delta Pathology <br />Associates, 2291 W. March Lane, Ste. 179E, Stockton, CA 95207. <br />After final processing, the specimens become waste and are the responsibility of Delta Pathology Associates. <br />Additionally, Lodi Memorial Hospital accepts no medical waste from any other facility and is registered as a Lg= <br />Quantity Generator. <br />
