o Pharmacy training- This is geld for pharmacy staff to discuss the incomoible RCRA containers and the
additional segregation process that is happening in the pharmacy. There is one session offered on the day of the
visit.
I will be creating training material that is specific to your facility's formulary, and will be focused on proper segregation
of pharmaceutical waste. As you can see this is a more robust visit then we had in the past and will take a little more
coordination. In order to pull this off by the requested timeframe, I will need some assistance coordinating the correct
hospital personnel and scheduling specific trainings with them. Are you able to assist by scheduling the super user
training with any nurse leadership that should attend? As mentioned above, I can offer 2 sessions. I have outlined a
tentative training schedule below.
Tentative schedule proposed:
9am—10:15am: After Care Rounds/ audit
10:30—11:15am: Super user training (Please reserve a conference room)
11:30am —12pm: Pharmacy training
fpm- 1:45pm: Super user training (Please reserve a conference room)
2pm- 2:30: EVS training
3pm: exit meeting
Additionally, please answer the following questions. This will be important for me to get back as soon as possible as I will
be using this information to prepare the training materials.
• Are alerts programs into Pyxis/ Omincell/ eMAR machines for nursing staff to identify proper disposal of
hazardous medications?
If so, please specify exact verbiage programmed into machines. Examples below.
o Hazardous Compatible Waste: Black Container Waste
o Incompatible Waste: Return to Pharmacy
o P -Listed Waste: Zip Lock Bag, Packaging + Med, Black Container Waste
• What is the hospital policy for disposal of empty syringes?
• Are incompatible RCRA medications returned to Pharmacy?
• What is the hospital policy for disposal of controlled substances?
Let me know if you have any questions.
