Complaint Investigation Summary
Report #: 5105
COMPLAINT ID: COYMFUN89 Site Location: 330 N PLEASANT AVENUE, LODI, CA
Activity Summary
Activity Date Recorded by
12/07/2021 CONFIDENTIAL: Received an email from the complainant with the following MANZO
information:
" Thank you for getting back to me and also for your patience in providing the
information you requested.
After I contacted Servpro-Lodi they set a date to come out on 10/18 when their
"machine" [ozone generator] was available. I contacted Servpro because I relied
on their website advertising
https://www.servpro.com/services/cleaning-services/specialized-cleaning/odor-rem
oval and https://www.servprolodi.com/odor-removal-deodorization
I was anxious to have the odor removed and, of course, wanted it done right. They
were to identify the source of the odor and then apply the appropriate steps and
treatments.
Sonia, from Servpro Lodi, came with the ozone generator on 10/18. I gave her the
details to assist her in identifying the source of the odor. She did not look for a
source nor asked any leading questions to assist her in identifying the source.
She just repeated that it smelled like someone spilled something and tried to clean
it up with vinegar, this, in spite of me telling her that it seemed odd that the smell
would be the same intensity in three different rooms.
She offered the ozone generator at $375 for a minimum of three days. She told
me it was safe. She told me, which I also wrote on the back of her business card,
to run the machine for 12 hours in each of the three rooms. Watch the time and
after the machine has been off for one hour come in, air it out for two hours. So
that's what we did.
This machine only has one strength/volume setting.
Sonia left no instruction manual or reference sheet, no troubleshooting guide, no
emergency measures or first aid, did not address exposure to ozone, did not seal
nor label the rooms with warning signs and tape, did not offer safety equipment to
protect our eyes and airways, did not ask about pets, did not ask how we occupied
the space, did not ask about plants, gave no warnings about possibilities of over
treatment via ozone oxidizing other materials in the home, did not ask about
electronics or anything in the home that might be damaged by the ozone.
She did not ask if any of us had any preexisting respiratory conditions. She did not
state to us that if she could not find the source of the odor what that would mean
for us in making a decision moving forward. She did not go over proper ventilation
or warnings about ozone over treatment. No one from Servpro came to monitor
the situation, to check their machine and the effectiveness of its application, did
not wear nor offer any protective gear, did not have any monitors or meters to
check ozone levels, no emphasis on our safety nor protecting our home and
belongings.
Sonia, also, did not measure the areas to be treated to provide just the right
amount pf ozone and to avoid over treatment.
The machine was picked up on 10/20.
This is a manual
https://www.jondon.com/media/pdf/manuals/TZ%20Manual-1239111124.pdf that
is similar, if not identical, to the machine they used. Please note the warnings, the
making money on page 14, and on page 6 determining area to be treated to use
the correct amount of ozone. My home is 1400 square feet and only three rooms
51 05. rpt
