isolated animals known to be infected with diseases Wighly communicable to <br /> humans.(as per Center for Disease Corftd,l3iosalety Level V See below). <br /> Biosafety Level 4 viruses and diseases are Congo-Brimean hemoffWn fever, <br /> T e encephalitis virus complex(Absettarou, Hanzalova, Hypr, Kumlinge, Kysanus <br /> Forest disease, Omsk hernmonhagir,fever, and Russian Spring-Summer encephalitis), <br /> Marburg disease, Ebola,Jamin virus,Lassa fever virus, Machupo <br /> virus. <br /> Policy And Procedure For Handling Storage And Disp2ol Of Medical Waste <br /> Policy: <br /> AQ provisions of Medical Waste Management Act Hrt7l be followed in providing for the <br /> handling, storage and disposal of all Medical/Siohazardous waste. <br /> AM medical waste, as defined by the facility's "Infection Control Committee; in <br /> compliance with the California Health and Safety Code, will be colected by nursing <br /> personnel in designed containers located in the designed biohazardous waste storage <br /> areas. <br /> The designated storage areas will be locked and under the supervision of the <br /> environmental services supervisor until picked up for disposal by Registered Waste <br /> Transporter. <br /> Procedures: <br /> 1. All medical waste wiq be collected at the site of origin and p!aced in a red <br /> biohazardous bag that meets the 965 gram dart impact specifications. These red <br /> biohazardous bags will be maintained Inside rigid containers with tight fitting lids that are <br /> labeled on the ids and sides with the word 'biohazard' and the Interriational b1ohazard <br /> symbol. These rigs collection containers can be any color are located on the treatment <br /> carts, kept in isolation rooms or maintained in the b1ohazardous waste storage areas. <br /> (on rollers) <br /> 2. Assigned staff transport the medical waste, in the red bags inside rigid, leak resistant <br /> containers with tight fitting Hds once each shift, or as often as necessary, to the locked <br /> biohazardous closet for emptying. The red bags wM be securely ore being <br /> transferred from the collection containers to the storage containers kept inside the <br /> biohazardous storage areas. <br /> 3. Storage containers maintained inside the locked storage areas are transported"daily <br /> by the janitorial staff to a locked storage area outside the facility building or Outside <br /> storage areas are not used in this facility, as per following comment. <br /> 315 <br />
