Soil Suitability and Nitrate Loading Study
UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD — LATHROP
1000/1012 East Roth Road, French Camp, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION AND PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
AdvancedGeo, Inc. (AGI) has prepared this Soil Suitability and Nitrate Loading Study
(Study) for the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) — Lathrop Intermodal Expansion Project
located at 1000/1012 East Roth Road, Lathrop, California (site or subject property). The
purpose of this Study is to determine the potential impact from nitrate loading and the
suitability of the subsurface for an onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) due to
the proposed development of a new gate building and septic system and the future use
of the property. The study was performed in accordance with the requirements of Section
9-1105.2(d) of the San Joaquin County Community Development Department (SJCCDD).
The scope of work included a soil percolation test (performed in 2019), review of
published soil and groundwater information, local septic use and permit research and
estimated nitrate impact to soil and groundwater at the site.
The site and surrounding area are illustrated in Figure 1 . A site plan depicting structures,
the percolation test hole location, and the planned location of the proposed gate building
and septic system are illustrated in Figure 2. The utility plans for the project and the
proposed OWTS are provided in Appendix A.
1.1. DESCRIPTION OF SITE
The location of the site, surrounding properties and general setting is illustrated on the
Lathrop topographic map (7.5 Minute United States Geological Survey (USGS)
Topographic Series, California). The site is located in the northern portion of Section 13,
Township 2 South, Range 6 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (Figure 1).
The topographic map of Lathrop shows the property located at an elevation of
approximately 20 feet above mean sea level in an area of low topographic relief. The
regional slope of the area is relatively gentle and dips toward the west. The property is
located at the intersection of East Roth Road and Intermodal Way, Lathrop, California.
The site consists of a 121 .04-acre parcel identified as San Joaquin County Assessor
Parcel Number (APN) 198-200-160-000. The current land use type of the property is
miscellaneous, and the current zoning is Agriculture-Urban Reserve (AU-20). The
property is situated approximately 700 feet east of incorporated French Camp, California
in the southern portion of San Joaquin County, California.
There are currently no structures on the subject property. The property consists of vacant
fields, asphalt- and dirt-surfaced parking areas for trailers, and a stormwater retention
basin. The site will be provided with potable water by the City of Lathrop (Appendix B;
Figure 2).
