• California Hazardous Waste must be properly segregated and disposed of using a licensed <br /> waste hauler. <br /> • All California Hazardous Waste must be segregated to prevent incompatible mixtures and any <br /> possible cross contamination. Potential waste hazard classes are Corrosive, Flammable, <br /> Alkaline, Oxidizer, Toxic and Universal Waste. <br /> • Containers for storing California Hazardous Waste must be kept closed, except when adding <br /> or removing waste. <br /> • Containers in the Hazardous Waste storage area must be inspected weekly for signs of leaks, <br /> corrosion, or deterioration. Inspections need to be documented, <br /> • California Hazardous Waste cannot be disposed of by pouring down the drain or placing in the <br /> trash. <br /> • Containers for storing California Hazardous Waste must be transferred to a licensed waste <br /> hauler for disposal within 12 months of being generated (Exception, "large quantity <br /> generators" must transfer waste every 40 days), <br /> Procedure; Warehouse Operations <br /> • Each center wilt maintain a current CHWL, as supplied by Corporate Procurement, and made <br /> available for all teammates. <br /> • Any item on the CHWL that is unusable, including unusable items returned from routes, will <br /> be segregated and moved to the Non-Conforming Area for review. <br /> • Records will be maintained at the DC on all CHWL items that are damaged or unsalable, <br /> These records will include Item number and description, quantity at1d ultimate disposition. <br /> Records shall be available for review by regulatory agencies and internal audits. <br /> • After review, product destined for disposal shall be moved to the Hazardous Waste Storage <br /> area and placed in a designated container to be held for pick up by the licensed waste hauler, <br /> • Hazardous waste containers shall be provided to allow for proper segregation and <br /> compatibility of the wastes. <br /> • Container labeling should include the words HAZARDOUS WASTE, generator's name (i.e,, <br /> McLane Foodservice) and address, accumulation start date, and any other details required by <br /> California regulations. <br /> • A recordkeeping system shall be established for at[ supporting California Hazardous Waste <br /> paperwork (CHWL, disposal manifests, training records, weekly inspections, etc.). Records <br /> shall be maintained for a period of 3 years. <br /> • Batteries, aerosols, and fluorescent lights must be managed as Universal Waste. All Universal <br /> Waste containers must be properly labeled including the accumulation start date when the <br /> waste was first put in the container. <br /> • All locations Will maintain spill kits compatible with the wastes generated. CHWL items <br /> involved in spills will be cleaned appropriately to prevent contamination and placed in the <br /> appropriate waste container. <br /> Procedure: Transportation <br /> • Leaking and damaged California Hazardous Waste must be kept segregated from other non- <br /> hazardous waste in the trailer to prevent cross contamination. <br /> • In-transit leakerslspills will be handled in accordance with spill kit instructions. <br /> n Leaking hazardous materials will be sealed in the supplied disposal bag with <br /> absorbent. <br /> o Any unusable CHWL products will be returned to the distribution center for proper <br /> disposal. <br /> McLane Co,Confidential,For Internal use only Page 2 of 3 <br />
