Forward Landfill WMU FU-23 02300 20 EARTHWORK C. Quality Control: 1. General: As the Coarse Gravel material is being placed, the QA/QC CONSULTANT will be monitoring the construction activities and soil properties. If acceptance tests conducted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT indicate that the Coarse Gravel does not meet specified requirements, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall terminate material placement until corrective measures are taken. 2. Coarse Gravel Acceptance: Final acceptance of the Coarse Gravel will be based on all tests made on completed Work or on samples of material taken from the completed layer. Testing for final acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual. D. Protection: 1. Do not route construction traffic on top of Coarse Gravel layer once material has been placed. 2. Constructed Coarse Gravel layer shall be maintained to meet the requirements of this Specification until final completion and acceptance of the Work. This shall include all measures to prevent erosion. During seasonal or other extended shutdowns, all exposed surfaces shall be protected as detailed in Article 3.1, PROTECTION OF EXPOSED SURFACES, of this Section. In addition, the Coarse Gravel shall be protected from any contamination that reduces the hydraulic conductivity. Any contaminated material shall be removed and replaced at no cost to the OWNER. 3.11 CONSTRUCTION OF GRANULAR DRAINAGE MATERIAL A. General Requirements: 1. GDM shall be placed and compacted to the lines and grades shown on the Construction Drawings or as required by the DESIGN ENGINEER. 2. The CONTRACTOR shall notify the OWNER at least 3 working days in advance of when the granular drainage material is completed and ready for as-built surveys. The OWNER will survey the top of the GDM within two days of the layer being completed to determine that the required minimum thickness has been achieved. The survey shall be performed in accordance with Section 01410, SURVEYS, and shall provide coordinates and elevations of the surface at the established 50-foot grid and delineating prominent features such as the edge of GDM. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR may use an alternative method for measuring the thickness of the GDM, with prior written approval of the OWNER and QA/QC CONSULTANT. The QA/QC CONSULTANT shall have 2 working days to review survey results and may independently verify survey results.
