Incompatible hazardous materials and
hazardous wastes must be separated by storing incompatible materials in separate
cabinets, by having a non‐combustible barrier between incompatible materials, or by
having 20 feet of separation between incompatible materials to prevent the incompatible
materials from commingling, which could result in a chemical reaction or fire.
Incompatible materials must be separated. Incompatible materials can be separated by a
partition or by use of a chemical or flammable storage cabinet. A list of incompatible
chemicals is attached for your reference. Any material that is classified as an extremely
hazardous chemical, regardless of quantity, cannot be stored or used at any of the district’s
campuses. The lists of these extremely hazardous chemicals are available in this program as
a reference.
Cylinders must be stored upright and secured so they cannot be knocked over, unless they
are intended to be laid on their side for use.
30
