The CAR inspects each major appliance in the appliance staging area for <br />materials that require special handling. When identified, these materials are removed and placed <br />in the appropriate container. <br /> <br />The CAR completes a DTSC Form 1430 each day appliances are recycled. This form is <br />submitted to the County with an appliance log documenting the materials removed. The CAR <br />also documents the generation of universal and hazardous wastes removed and collected. <br /> <br />7.6.3 Special Materials Handling Practices <br />Materials requiring special handling are temporarily stored at the NCRC&SL before removal to <br />permitted facilities. Packaging and labeling are as follows: <br /> <br /> Mercury switches <br /> Packaging: 5-gallon plastic bucket with screw top lids <br /> Labeling: Universal Waste Mercury Devices <br /> <br /> Refrigerant and Compressor Oils <br /> Packaging: 30 or 55-gallon steel drum <br /> Labeling: Used Oil <br /> <br /> Used Refrigerants <br /> Packaging: Recovery Cylinders <br /> Labeling: Used Refrigerant <br /> <br />PCB Capacitors <br /> Packaging: 5-gallon plastic bucket with screw top lids <br /> Labeling: Waste Polychlorinated Bi-Phenyls <br /> <br />Non-PCB Capacitors <br /> Packaging: 55-gallon drum <br /> Labeling: Used oil-containing Capacitors <br /> <br />7.6.4 Safety Precautions <br />CAR personnel assist County supervisors and staff in the identification of appliances containing <br />materials requiring special handling.
