North County RC&SL Page 61 of 64 Public Works/Solid Waste <br />Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin – Revised July 14, 2025 <br />8.2 EQUIPMENT <br />Additional equipment may be used as needed in the wood waste processing area, and the <br />equipment identified below may not be used if not needed. <br /> <br />• Front-end loader <br />• Wood grinder <br />• Trommel screen <br />• Transfer tractors/trailers – Transport material from site to markets <br />• Mechanical claw-arm <br /> <br />8.3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS <br />• Only qualified, trained personnel work in the wood waste processing area. <br />• Safety equipment for Personnel working in the wood waste processing area include highly <br />visible safety vests, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and proper footwear. <br />• Mobile equipment will be equipped with an audible back up alarm and working lights. <br /> <br />8.4 PREVENTING COMPOSTING <br />The temperature of raw (unprocessed) wood waste piles is monitored regularly by the wood <br />waste contractor to verify that temperatures within the raw wood waste piles do not reach 140 <br />degrees. If the temperature within the piles is found to be near 122 deg, then the wood waste <br />contractor turns the piles, exposing the inner, warmer material to the air for cooling. <br /> <br />The County contractor will not add water or take other measures to enhance the biological activity <br />(composting) within the un-processed wood waste without LEA approval. The County contractor <br />will only apply water as needed to control dust. <br />
