Agency (USEPA) Low Stress (low flow) Purging and Sampling Procedure for the
Collection of Groundwater Samples from Monitoring Wells (USEPA, 2017). Included in
this SOP are the field forms for sampling, protocols and forms for meter calibration, and
procedures for decontamination and documentation that will be followed.
1.2 Pre-Mobilization Activities
Prior to mobilization to the Site, the sampler will obtain information on the construction,
diameter, depth, material, and screen interval of the monitoring wells that will be
sampled. and will obtain a map showing the location of each monitoring well to be
sampled.
The sampler will also obtain a listing of the parameters that will be measured in the field
or laboratory as part of the sampling program including the required analytical method,
sample volume, and holding time for each parameter. The parameters that will be
measured in the field are the low flow stabilization parameters including temperature,pH,
specific conductance, ORP, DO, and turbidity. These parameters will be recorded as
required during low flow sampling, and immediately prior to collection of samples for
laboratory analysis.
1.2.1 Equipment and Supplies
The field equipment below will be brought to the site and used during sample collection:
• Field sampling forms
• Level D Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)
• bladder pump
• peri-pump (used only when bladder pump use not feasible due to the diameter of
the well casing)
• Field probe and flow-through cell (e.g., YSI) for measuring pH, temperature,
conductance (and/or specific conductance), dissolved oxygen and oxidation-
reduction potential of groundwater, and a turbidity meter.
• Calibration solutions for the field probes
• Water level meter
• Tubing, connections and tools as appropriate
• Decontamination supplies (e.g., deionized or distilled water, Alconox/Liquinox
soap, alcohol,paper towels)
• Sample containers and cooler provided by laboratory
