Equipment Operation - Changing work environment <br />- Collisions <br />- Cross Traffic <br />- Distraction <br />- Earthmoving equipment (dozers, graders, <br />excavators, trenchers, rollers, compactors, <br />backhoe, skip loader) <br />- Exposure to Traffic <br />- Excessive Noise <br />- Rolling the wheels off an edge, ramps, and <br />loading docks <br />- Falls from Equipment <br />1. Maintain focus on ground and surface conditions, exercise <br />care when operating over uneven ground, on hills, or over soft <br />or coarse materials. The machine could shift or slide <br />unexpectedly. <br />2. Always communicate scope of work with all parties involved, <br />use radios for ongoing operations, ensure back up alarm is <br />functioning. <br />3. Ensure that trained flagging/traffic control are used and that <br />personnel responsible are equipped with emergency air horn to <br />alert others if needed. <br />4. Maintain awareness of changing positions, movement of other <br />equipment and personnel on the job site. Cell phone is not <br />allowed while operating vehicles or equipment. <br />5. Be aware of other equipment traffic or trades that may be <br />present, if traffic is too congested to perform work safely use <br />traffic control devices to delineate the area and establish a safe <br />exclusion zone. <br />6. Wear high visibility traffic vest at all times, do not work or <br />walk with back towards traffic, use work vehicles as a physical <br />barrier if needed to create space between ground personnel and <br />traffic. <br />7. Wear double hearing protection when operating compactor. <br />8. Always use caution when operating near the edges of pits and <br />trenches, check to ensure that ground is stable enough to <br />support the weight of the machine, do not traverse or compact <br />slopes greater than what is approved by equipment <br />manufacturer, travel up or down slopes where possible, and <br />avoid sharp turns. <br />9.
