Equipment Unloading and Set-up - Housekeeping <br />- Improper Equipment Placement <br />- Leaks / Spills <br />- Manually unloading of materials <br />and equipment <br />- Pinch Points <br />- Sharp objects <br />- Slips/Trips/Falls <br />1. Do not leave tools, materials, trash or debris lying on the <br />ground, route hoses safely. <br />2. Place equipment in the safest spot possible. <br />3. Improper set-up can cause fuel backflow, increasing the risk <br />of spills and exposure. <br />4. Do not lift more than 50 lbs. without using the "buddy system" <br />or mechanical means, keep a firm grip, hold heavy or awkward <br />objects in close to the body, do not over extend your arms when <br />lifting. <br />5. Do not place your hands or body between objects that could <br />cause pinching or crushing. <br />6. Wear gloves at all times when lifting equipment, do not hold <br />equipment with sharp edges against your body. <br />7. Watch where you walk, visually scan for hazards, plan your <br />route, do not walk through wet or muddy surfaces. <br />M <br />4. Open lid carefully and use a PID (or similar) monitoring <br />instrument to obtain a field reading. Reference field reading(s) <br />with site action levels in HASP and determine if it is safe to <br />continue. If LEL concentrations are at or above 10%, Stop work <br />and seek further guidance from the safety officer. Lack of <br />adequate ventilation increases the risk of explosion, nearby hot <br />surfaces or equipment can ignite also fuel vapors. <br />2. Always keep a 20lbs. ABC Fire Extinguisher readily available <br />during UST work and specifically fuel transfer activities. Do not <br />perform tasks with power tools unless they are intrinsically safe. <br />Only use non-sparking hand tools made of brass or pneumatic <br />tools. Note: Smoking or open flames is not allowed as vapors <br />can ignite. <br />M <br />5. Connect Air Supply and <br />Discharge Hose to Diaphragm <br />Pump <br />- Improper Air Pressure <br />- Improperly connected hose <br />1. Check the equipment manual for correct air pressure setting. <br />2.
