Required Level A protection is: <br /> • Pressure-demand, full-face SCBA or pressure-demand supplied-air respirator with escape SCBA <br /> • Fully-encapsulating, chemical-resistant suit <br /> • Inner chemical-resistant gloves <br /> • Chemical-resistant safety boots/shoes <br /> • Two-way radio communications. <br /> Optional Level A prosecution is <br /> • Cooling unit; <br /> • Coveralls; <br /> • Long cotton underwear; <br /> • Hard hat. <br /> • Disposable gloves and boot covers. <br /> 4.2.6 Reassessment of PPE Level <br /> The levels of protection listed in the above section will be upgraded or downgraded based on: 1) <br /> measurements taken from direct reading instruments as compared to action levels, 2) a change in site <br /> conditions, or 3) other findings. Changes in the level of protection require approval of the HSPM or SHSO <br /> if the HSPM is unavailable. <br /> 4.31JIsing Personal Protective Equipment <br /> All persons entering an exclusion zone (EZ) will don the required PPE using the procedures listed. To <br /> minimize the spread of contamination, when leaving the EZ, PPE will be removed using the procedures <br /> listed. <br /> 4.3.1 Work Zones <br /> A project area will be divided into three work zones: exclusion zone (EZ),contamination reduction zone <br /> (CRZ), and a support zone (SZ). The PM will be responsible for designation of the work zones. The <br /> contaminated area will be marked with barrier tape or other means to warn personnel of the hazards. <br /> Only CDIM project personnel, authorized subcontractors and authorized visitors who have completed 40- <br /> hour hazardous waste training, are medically qualified, and who are wearing the required PPE will be <br /> allowed within the EZ. <br /> Immediately adjacent to the EZ, a decontamination area for equipment and personnel will be established. <br /> This area will also be delineated with traffic cones and/or barrier tape. Each side of the decontamination <br /> zone will be posted with the appropriate warning sign. <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br />
