calm CDIM <br /> Corporate Safety Program <br /> HSP1 Personal Protective Equipment <br /> ° • Rev. 1 08/23/2018 <br /> Appropriate hand protection shall be selected by the SHSO to protect personnel's hands when they may <br /> be exposed to hazards. Hand protection shall not be required when the risk of such injury is infrequent, <br /> superficial or when hand protection could become entangled in moving machinery. <br /> Hand protection, which is designed to protect against skin absorption of harmful substances, shall be <br /> selected using the manufacturer's chemical compatibility data. <br /> 4.3.7 Special Personal Protective Equipment for Asbestos Projects <br /> Protective measures for asbestos as required from 29 CFR 1926.1101 and described herein are <br /> applicable when employees can be exposed to asbestos during work, including but not limited to <br /> • Demolition or salvage of structures where asbestos is present; <br /> • Removal or encapsulation of materials containing asbestos; <br /> • Construction, alteration, repair, maintenance, or renovation of structures, substrates, or portions <br /> thereof, that contain asbestos; <br /> • Installation of products containing asbestos; <br /> • Asbestos spill/emergency cleanup; and <br /> • Transportation, disposal, storage, containment of and housekeeping activities involving asbestos <br /> or products containing asbestos, on the site or location at which construction activities. <br /> Employees shall use CDIM-provided protective clothing, such as coveralls or similar whole-body clothing, <br /> head coverings, gloves, and foot coverings for any employee exposed to airborne concentrations of <br /> asbestos. See HSP-2 for respiratory protection requirements. <br /> The competent person shall examine work suits worn by employees at least once per work shift for rips or <br /> tears that may occur during performance of work. When rips or tears are detected while an employee is <br /> working, rips and tears shall be immediately mended, or the work suit shall be immediately replaced. <br /> No laundering of contaminated clothing is permitted. Contaminated clothing shall be placed in in sealed <br /> impermeable bags, or other closed, impermeable containers, and be labeled and transported and <br /> disposed in accordance with applicable regulations. <br /> 4.3.8 Special Personal Protective Equipment for Lead Projects <br /> Protective measures for lead required by 29 CFR 1926.62 and described herein are applicable when <br /> employees could be exposed to lead above the PEL or lead compounds which may cause skin or eye <br /> irritation (e.g. lead arsenate, lead azide). See HSP-2 for respiratory protection requirements. <br /> Employees shall use appropriate protective work clothing and equipment that prevents contamination of <br /> the employee and the employee's garments such as, but not limited to: Coveralls or similar full-body work <br /> clothing; Gloves, hats, and shoes or disposable shoe coverlets; and face shields, vented goggles, or <br /> other appropriate protective equipment which complies with 29 CFR 1910.133. <br /> CDIM provides the protective clothing listed above in a clean and dry condition at least weekly, and daily <br /> to employees whose exposure levels without regard to a respirator are over 200 ug/m(3) of lead as an 8- <br /> hour TWA. <br /> CDIM repairs or replace required protective clothing and equipment as needed to maintain their <br /> effectiveness. <br /> CDIM prohibits the removal of lead from protective clothing or equipment by blowing, shaking, or any <br /> other means which disperses lead into the air. <br /> The SSHO or PM shall assure that all protective clothing is removed at the completion of a work shift only <br /> in change areas provided for that purpose. <br /> Page 5 of 6 <br />
