HAZARD MITIGATORS — HEAVY EQUIPMENT <br /> Applies to Task: Bf O 10 ® ❑ © ❑ ® ❑ ® ❑ ® ❑ O ❑ <br /> • Operate equipment with booms, blades, buckets, beds, etc., lowered or in a stable position <br /> while on slopes. Safety cables tethered to appropriate anchors shall be used for equipment <br /> working on steep slopes, where appropriate. The use of cables and anchors must be <br /> approved by the SHSO. <br /> • Suspend in slings or support by hoists or jacks heavy equipment in need of repair. The <br /> equipment must also be blocked or cribbed before workers are permitted to work <br /> underneath. Working under heavy equipment can pose a crushing hazard. <br /> • Shut off motors, do not allow smoking, and use proper dispensing equipment when <br /> refueling gasoline-operated equipment to prevent fire hazards. <br /> • Lower hydraulic; systems (e.g., blades, rippers, etc.) to the ground, set brakes, and shut <br /> down equipment if malfunction occurs which impairs the ability to control a piece of <br /> equipment. <br /> • Use rollover protection and seat belts. <br /> Heavy Equipment(rev.)-HazMit.doc Page 2 of 2 8/3/2007 <br />
