2.03 TEMPORARY BULKHEADS AND PLUGS <br /> A. Design and provide bulkheads and plugs to withstand anticipated upstream <br /> differential head without leakage or displacement. <br /> A watertight seal is required to prevent sewerage from entering the work area. <br /> B. The Contractor shall provide double bulkheads and plugs, both able to withstand <br /> upstrearn head, upstream of locations where persons will be entering the sewer <br /> and at all flow diversions. Coordinate installation and removal of bulkheads and <br /> plugs with the Engineer. <br /> 2.04 STANDBY EQUIPMENT <br /> A. The Contractor shall have available on site sufficient equipment and materials to <br /> ensure continuous and successful leak-free operation of the sewage flow control <br /> system. <br /> B. A sufficient number of valves, tees, elbows, connections, tools, sewer bulkheads <br /> for different pipe sizes as needed, piping and other parts of system hardware to <br /> ensure immediate repair or modifications of any part of the system as necessary. <br /> C. The Contractor shall have on site one standby pump with capacity equal to or <br /> greater than the largest primary pump. If the standby pump is electric, a standby <br /> generator shall be provided on site. The standby pump shall be operational at all <br /> times. <br /> D. Generator shall be fueled at all times. <br /> PART 3 — EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 MONITORING AND SUPERVISION OF SEWAGE FLOW CONTROL SYSTEM <br /> A. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions including constant monitoring <br /> (requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week continuous monitoring by on-site <br /> Contractor personnel while sewage flow control system is in place) of sewage <br /> flow control pumping and diversion plug or bulkhead to insure that there are no <br /> sewerage spills and no private properties are subjected to a sewerage backup. <br /> B. The Contractor shall not shut down sewage flow control systems between shifts, <br /> on holidays or weekends, or during work stoppages without written permission <br /> from the Engpneer. <br /> C. Contractor shall monitor the group of manholes as provided on the submitted <br /> manhole monitoring plan that will constitute flow control and diversion system <br /> check. The Contractor personnel responsible for monitoring the flow control and <br /> diversion shall inspect each manhole a minimum of once per 24 hours. <br /> 3.02 NOISE CONTROL. <br /> A. All pumps and generators shall be enclosed within sound baffling to reduce noise <br /> level. <br /> July 2007 Division III-46 NEI Phase II Water and Sewer <br /> CIP Nos. 7468, 7589, 7590 <br />
