D 4318 - Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit, and Plasticity Index of Soils. All aggregate shall be <br /> free from organic matter and shall not contain more alkali, sulfates, or salts than the <br /> native materials at the site. <br /> E. Admixtures <br /> Air entraining admixtures shall be in accordance with ASTM C 260 - Air-Entraining <br /> Admixtures for Concrete. Water reducing admixtures shall be in accordance with <br /> ASTM C 494 - Chemical Admixtures for Concrete. <br /> F. Water <br /> Water shall be potable, clean, free from objectionable quantities of silt, organic <br /> matter, alkali, salt, and other impurities. <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 GENERAL <br /> Subgrade and compacted fill to receive CLSM shall be prepared according to Section 02200 - <br /> Earthwork. Batching, mixing, and delivery of CLSM shall conform to ASTM C 94. CLSM shall <br /> be mixed at a batch plant acceptable to the Engineer and shall be delivered in standard transit <br /> mix trucks. <br /> 3.02 PLACEMENT <br /> A. CLSM shall be placed by tailgate discharge, conveyor belts, pumped, or other <br /> means acceptable to the Engineer. CLSM shall be directed in place by vibrator, <br /> shovel, or rod to fill all crevices and pockets. Placement shall not cause the <br /> material to fall and separate/segregate. A vertical drop of no more than 5 feet will <br /> be allowed. Avoid over-consolidation which causes separation of aggregate <br /> sizes. <br /> B. CLSM shall be continuously placed against fresh material unless otherwise <br /> approved by the Engineer. When new material is placed against existing CLSM, <br /> the placement area shall be free from all loose and foreign material. The surface <br /> of the existing material shall be soaked a minimum of one hour before placement <br /> of fresh material but no standing water shall be allowed when placement begins. <br /> C. Temperature of the CLSM shall be between 50 and 90 degrees F, when placed. <br /> CLSM shall not be placed when the air temperature is below 40 degrees F. No <br /> CLSM shall be placed against frozen subgrade or other materials having <br /> temperature less than 32 degrees F. <br /> D. The Contractor is hereby advised that flotation or displacement of the pipe could <br /> result during installation of the CLSM. The Contractor shall make necessary <br /> provisions to prevent flotation and ensure that the pipe is installed in accordance <br /> with the Contract Documents. <br /> July 2007 Division III-64 NEI Phase II Water and Sewer <br /> CIP Nos. 7468, 7589, 7590 <br />
