2. Prelubricated Anti-friction bearings shall be protected in accordance with
the bearing manufacturer's recommendations against the formation of
rust during a period of storage while awaiting the completion of
installation and startup.
C. Mechanical Seals
Each pump shall be provided with a mechanical seal. The seal shall consist of one
stationary and one rotating tungsten-carbide or silicon-carbide ring, or one stationary
tungsten-carbide or silicon-carbide ring and one driven rotation carbon ring. The seals
shall not require regular maintenance or adjustment and shall be easily inspected and
replaceable.
D. Motors
Pump motor shall be housed in a air filled, watertight casting of NEMA B design and
shall have Class F insulated windings, which shall be moisture resistant. Pump motors
shall be capable of continuous operation in a totally, partially, or nonsubmerged
condition, including a minimum of 6 starts per hour. The pumps shall be capable of
running dry in a totally dry condition without damage for 24 hours. The power cable shall
be of adequate length to reach the furthest end of the motor control center plus ten feet.
Provide motors with single cables of submersible pump application with p.122 MSHA
approval. Motors shall be specifically designed for submersible operation and shall be
explosion proof' rated.
E. Thermal Protection
Motors shall be equipped with three normally closed thermal switches embedded in the
end coils of the stator winding (one per phase). These switches shall be set to open at
260°F.
F. Guide Rails and Bases
1. Guide rails and bases shall be an integral part of the pumping unit and
the pump casing shall have a machined flange to connect with the
discharge connection. Discharge connection shall be bolted to the floor of
the wetwell and so designed as to receive the pump connecting flange
without the need of any bolts, gaskets, or nuts. The guide rails shall be
Schedule 40 stainless steel, 2 inches in diameter.
2. Sealing of the pumping unit to the discharge connection shall be
accomplished by a simple linear downward motion of the pump along the
guide rails with the entire weight of the pumping unit pressing tightly
against the discharge connection. No portion of the pump shall bear
directly on the floor of the wetwell and no rotary motion of the pump shall
be required for sealing. The maximum allowable leakage is 0.005 times
the total flow at the design point.
3. Cable entry design shall preclude specific torque requirements. The cable
entry shall have single grommet, washers, compressed by the entry body
containing a strain relief function. The cable entry junction chamber and
July 2007 Division III-126 NEI Phase II Water and Sewer
CIP Nos. 7468, 7589, 7590
