2.12 VALVE APPURTENANCES <br /> A. crxtcrsion Stems -for Buried <br /> Valve Op r tors <br /> Where the depth of the valve is such that its centerline is more than three feet below <br /> grade, operating extension stems shall be provided to bring the operating nut to a point <br /> 18 inches below the surface of the ground and/or box cover. Extension stems shall be <br /> constructed of steel and shall be complete with two inch square operating nut. <br /> B. Valve Boxes <br /> Valve boxes shall be provided for all buried valves. They shall be concrete construction <br /> with a minimum throat diameter of nine inches and minimum wall thickness of one inch. <br /> Valve boxes shall have cast-iron bases and covers with the appropriate service <br /> designation cast thereon. All parts shall be bituminous varnish coated. Valve boxes shall <br /> be Christy Concrete Products No. G-5 or equal. PVC pipe risers shall be C900 PVC, 8- <br /> inch diameter, extend to valve box and shall fit inside the valve box without slipping. <br /> Tracer wire shall be placed outside the riser pipe. <br /> PART 3 — EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 PLACING <br /> Valves installed in vertical runs of pipe shall have their operating stems oriented to facilitate the <br /> most practicable operation, as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 3.02 ANCHOR BOLTS <br /> Anchor bolts, nuts, and washers shall be Type 316 stainless steel and shall be cast in place <br /> during concrete placement Threads shall be protected and shall be cleaned before the nuts are <br /> attached and tightened. <br /> 3.03. TESTING <br /> Valves shall be tested at the same time that the adjacent pipeline is tested. Joints shall show no <br /> visible leakage under test. Joints that show signs of leakage shall be repaired prior to final <br /> acceptance. If there are any special parts of control systems or operators that might be <br /> damaged by the pipeline test, they shall be properly protected. The Contractor shall be held <br /> responsible for any damage caused by the testing. <br /> If requested by the City, the valve manufacturer shall furnish an affidavit stating the materials <br /> options furnished, and/or that these and other referenced specifications have been complied <br /> with. <br /> 3.04 CORROSION CONTROL <br /> Exposed valves shall be painted in accordance with Section 09900 Coating Systems. All buried <br /> metal parts such as valves and bolt-ups not cement mortar coated shall be coated with two <br /> coats of bitumastic in accordance with Section 09900 Coating Systems, and encased with one <br /> sheet of 8-mil minimum thickness polyethylene to form a continuous and all-encompassing layer <br /> July 2007 Division III-166 NEI Phase II Water and Sewer <br /> CIP Nos. 7468, 7589, 7590 <br />
