directed by the Engineer. Trench excavation shall conform to the provisions of City Standard
<br /> Plan No, 501, Section 306 of the City Standard Specifications. The Contractor's attention is
<br /> directed to Section 26 "Disposal of Material' of the Special Requirements of these
<br /> Specifications.
<br /> B. Requirements
<br /> For any excavations more than five feet (5') deep, the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer,
<br /> the structural calculations to verify the structural safety and adequacy of the sheeting, shoring
<br /> and bracing to be used on the project. No such plan shall allow shoring, sloping or a protection
<br /> system less effective than that required by the Construction Safety Orders of the State Division
<br /> of Occupational Safety and Health. The structural calculations must be prepared, stamped and
<br /> signed by a Registered Engineer licensed to practice in the State of California. Sheeting,
<br /> shoring, and/or bracing of open cut excavations shall be provided, inclusive of all construction
<br /> conforming to applicable safety orders, including any necessary subsurface investigations,
<br /> preparing and submitting shoring designs, labor, tools, materials, equipment, power, and fuel for
<br /> doing all required work: including but not limited to that as required by Sections 6700-6708 of the
<br /> Labor Code.
<br /> C. Schedule
<br /> At least 30 days prior to commencing work requiring excavation sheeting and shoring on this
<br /> project, the Contractor shall submit to the City in accordance with Section 01300 a plan and
<br /> schedule of construction which will allow the least inconvenience to the public and/or residents.
<br /> MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
<br /> Trench Excavation Safety (Bid Item 2) shall be paid for on a lump sum basis. Measurement will
<br /> be based on the percentage of work completed as determined by the Engineer, and the detailed
<br /> schedule or breakdown of lump sum items as approved by the Engineer.
<br /> The contract lump sum price paid for trench excavation safety will include full compensation for
<br /> conforming to these requirements, including all shoring and bracing on all Bid Items furnishing
<br /> all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and doing all work for design, installation, and removal or
<br /> abandonment of sheeting, shoring, bracing, and other excavation supports, including but not
<br /> limited to, that as required by Section 6700-6708 of the Labor Code, all the labor, materials,
<br /> tools, equipment and incidentals for doing all the work involved and appurtenant facilities.
<br /> The lump sum price paid shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, materials, tools,
<br /> equipment and incidentals and for doing all the work, complete and in place, all as shown on the
<br /> drawings, specified in the Standard Specifications, these special provisions, and as directed by
<br /> the Engineer, and no additional compensation will be allowed.
<br /> SECTION 3 -WATER TRANSMISSION MAINS (BID ITEMS 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 AND 10)
<br /> The work of this section consists of construction of 12- inch and 18-inch diameter ductile iron
<br /> water mains, water valves, 2-inch combination air valves, 4-inch blowoffs, and related work.
<br /> The work shall consist of staking, pavement removal, trench excavation, dewatering, placement
<br /> of new water pipe, fittings, tees, crosses, valves, transition couplings, reducers, thrust blocks,
