SECTION 02160 <br /> EXCAVATION SUPPORT SYSTEMS <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1.01 SCOPE <br /> Construction of portions of the project will require the design and installation of adequate <br /> shoring by the Contractor. This section specifies requirements for sheeting, shoring, and <br /> bracing of trenches and excavations greater than 5 ft in depth. Trenches less than 5 ft in <br /> depth may also require sheeting, shoring and bracing if directed by the Construction <br /> Manager. <br /> 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. References <br /> The publications referred to hereinafter form a part of this specifications to the extent <br /> referenced. The publications are referred to in the text by the basic designation only. The <br /> latest edition of referenced publications in effect at the time of the bid shall govern. In case <br /> of conflict between the requirements of this section and the listed standards, the <br /> requirements of this section shall prevail. <br /> CAL OSHA State of California Construction Safety Orders <br /> California State Labor Code <br /> B. Design Requirements <br /> The Contractor shall design sheeting, shoring, and bracing in accordance with Article 6 of <br /> CAL OSHA and the California State Labor Code. The standards of design referred to in <br /> the Labor Code shall be those of CAL OSHA. Excavations of test pits is recommended to <br /> assist the Contractor in evaluating the appropriate shoring system for the project. The <br /> shoring procedure designed by the Contractor shall be suitable for the site subsurface <br /> conditions and project operational constraints. <br /> Horizontal strutting below the barrel of a pipe and the use of pipe as a support are not <br /> acceptable. <br /> 1.03 SUBMITTALS <br /> The Contractor shall submit to the Construction Manager information required by <br /> Section 6705 of the California State Labor Code. The Contractor shall also submit <br /> information in accordance with Special Provisions Section SP-08, SUBMITTALS to <br /> Walnut Grove Sewer Project (Conformed) 02160-1 SAO 160401 <br /> March 2008 n:A.sa0160401\specs\wg conform\di%-2V02160.doc <br />
