Section 15060
PIPING SYSTEMS
Piping shall be installed as specified except for adjustments to avoid architectural,
structural, HVAC' and other features and shall be coordinated with electrical construction. A
minimum vertical clearance of 8 feet (under pipe for access) shall be provided in all tunnels
and galleries. Piping sections shall be painted in accordance with Section 09800,
PAINTING AND SPECIAL COATING SYSTEMS prior to installation. Unless
specifically shown otherwise on the plans, minimum depth of cover for buried pipe shall be
36 inches over the top of the pipe.
B. Piping Sizes
Where the size of piping is not specified, the Contractor shall provide piping of the sizes
required by UPC. Unless specified otherwise, small piping (less than 1 inch in diameter)
required for services not described by UPC shall be 1/2 inch.
C. Pipe Support, Anchorage And Seismic Bracing
Piping shall be supported by anchor brackets, guides, saddles or hangers. See plans and
Sections 15140, PIPING SUPPORTS for acceptable types of supports, guides, saddles,
hangers and structure attachments for general pipe support, expansion/contraction and for
seismic bracing. Minimum spacing shall be as specified for supports and for seismic
bracing. Where a specific type of support or anchorage is indicated on the layout drawings,
then only that type shall be used there. Piping shall be vertically supported by anchor
brackets, guides, saddles or hangers and shall be seismically braced where indicated to resist
lateral load. Supports shall be provided on each run at each change of direction. Pipe
supports shall be hot-dip galvanized. Existing pipes and supports, electrical conduit and
supports, and related equipment shall not be used to support new piping.
D. Anchorage For Buried Piping
All plugs, caps, tees and bends in buried pressure piping systems shall be anchored by
means of reaction backing or restrained joints as specified in the individual piping sections.
Concrete thrust blocks shall be as shown on the plans.
E. Bedding And Backfill
Bedding and backfill for buried piping shall be as specified in Section 02210,
EXCAVATION,BACKFILLING, AND COMPACTION FOR UTILITIES and as shown
on the plans. Piping shall be buried as specified in Paragraph 3.01A, Location of this
section. Depth shall be adjusted to avoid other utilities.
F. Not Buried To Buried Or Encased Piping Material Transitions
Wherever a pipe 2 inches in diameter and larger passes from concrete encasement or
structure wall to earth, a flexible sleeve type pipe coupling, or a push-on bell and spigot,
Walnut Grove Sewer Project(Conformed) 15060-5 SAO 160401
March 2008 n:Asa0160401\specs\wo conformvdig Iv1 5060.doc
