2 <br /> <br />1 General Information <br /> <br /> <br />This Installation Manual is for the MSKT-SP-MGS (Standard Post / Steel Post) terminal called <br />the MSKT. The MSKT is intended for use with the MASH MGS (Midwest Guardrail System) <br />31" tall W-Beam barrier. The MSKT is a steel post terminal that can be attached to steel post or <br />wood post MGS barrier. <br /> <br />The MSKT was designed and crash tested as a redirective gating terminal to meet the <br />requirements of the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials <br />(AASHTO) Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) criteria Test Level 3 (100 km/hr). <br />The MSKT is eligible for Federal-aid reimbursement for use on the National Highway System. <br />It is the responsibility of the installer to utilize a design approved by the State DOT and to follow <br />all required State procedures and these instructions in installing the MSKT terminal. <br /> <br />This Installation Manual is divided into 7 sections <br /> <br /> General Information for MSKT Steel Post Design. <br /> <br /> MSKT Design & Rail Length Options – This area describes the different rail options <br />to choose from for creating the mid-span splice on the MSKT. (page 4) <br /> <br /> MSKT Drawing & Photo Details – This area shows a bill of materials and assembly <br />details for the MSKT. (pages 5 - 14) <br /> <br /> Installing the MSKT – This section gives a step-by-step procedure on the proper <br />assembly of MSKT Standard Post system. (pages 15 - 19) <br /> <br /> Inspection Checklist for MSKT – Use the checklist to inspect new installations or <br />recently maintained/repaired installations. (page 20) <br /> <br /> Repairing the MSKT – This section gives general repair procedures for the MSKT <br />Standard Post system. (page 21) <br /> <br /> Allowable Options for the MSKT – This section lists the various FHWA letters <br />showing different configurations/options for the MSKT. (page 22) <br /> <br />The Following Pay Limit Lengths are accepted for use with the MSKT <br /> <br />Measurement and payment shall be for each MSKT Standard Post Guardrail End Treatment <br />measured complete and in place as shown in the installation instructions and on the contract <br />plans. The pay limit options may be as shown below. NOTE: MGS barrier requires mid‐span  <br />splices between posts.  Pay limits often vary by 3'‐ 1½" (depending on rail lengths) from those  <br /> shown below. <br /> <br /> 12.5 ft – Hinged Posts #1 & #2. Posts #3 - #8 shall be W6x9# x 6'-0" standard <br />guardrail posts (for a TL-3 system). This has a 12.5 ft pay limit. <br /> <br /> 25 ft – Hinged Posts #1 & #2. Posts #3 - #8 shall be W6x9# x 6'-0" standard guardrail <br />posts (for a TL-3 system). If this is a TL-2 (70 km/h - 43 mph), requires 5 total posts. <br /> <br /> 37.5 ft – Hinged Posts #1 & #2. Posts #3 - #8 shall be W6x9# x 6'-0" standard <br />guardrail posts (for a TL-3 system). <br /> <br /> 50 ft – Hinged Posts #1 & #2. Posts #3 - #8 shall be W6x9# x 6'-0" standard guardrail <br />posts. This is a TL-3 system and has a 50 ft pay limit.
