LLNL Emergency Plan <br />Rev-23 <br />October 2017 <br /> <br /> 94 <br />10.4 Public Inquiries <br />In the event of an Operational Emergency, the PAO will be the single LLNL point-of-contact for <br />the news media and a principal source of information for Laboratory employees and community <br />officials. PAO personnel will respond to calls for information from the general community as <br />resources allow and will use news releases and other approved information to provide emergency <br />public information. <br />The PAO will also make available and publicize through the news media a telephone number <br />and website the public may contact for updated emergency information. If the JIC is activated, <br />all calls from the public and media will be referred there for response. Local government will <br />support response to local public calls concerning the offsite emergency response and public <br />health and safety. <br />10.5 Security <br />After activation of the EOC, the EOC Coordinator is responsible for identifying a Derivative <br />Classifier for the EOC, who is responsible for reviewing documents that will be released to the <br />public, including news releases, to ensure that sensitive or classified information is not released. <br />10.6 NNSA Field Office and Headquarters Coordination <br />Initial news release or public statements require NNSA/LFO Emergency Manager approval; <br />whereas, subsequent emergency public information is coordinated with the NNSA/LFO <br />Emergency Manager. If necessary, the LLNL PIM may communicate directly with the HQ <br />representative or delegate such activity to the PAO DOC Commander or JIC Manager. <br />
