4. Blood Borne Pathogens <br />Are microorganisms present in human blood that can cause disease in humans. These <br />include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B virus and HIV. <br />Cuts and abrasions shall be reported to management. Wash hands or use antiseptic <br />wipes if hand washing is not available. Hepatitis B vaccine is available if necessary. <br />Blood Borne Pathogen and First Aid kits are at the office and on each service vehicle. <br />5. Lifting <br />To avoid injury <br />1.) Size up the load <br />2.) Make sure you can carry it <br />3.) Bend at the knees. <br />4.) Do not twist or turn <br />5.) Set the load down properly <br />6.) Always push not pull. <br />6. Preventing Heat -Related Illnesses <br />When the body heats up faster than it can cool itself, mild to severe illnesses may <br />develop. It's important to recognize the symptoms of heat -related illnesses and <br />understand how to prevent, control and respond to their effects. <br />Drink small amounts of water frequently. <br />Limit exposure time and/or temperature. <br />Wear loose, lightweight clothing. <br />Get medical help <br />7. Portable Fire Extinguishers <br />Know where the fire extinguishers are located in your work area. Report any fire <br />extinguisher out of date or out of service. <br />Annual training is mandatory. <br />VIII. Tools and Equipment <br />Employees are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their tools and <br />equipment. Damaged tools and equipment are to be removed from service vehicle, <br />shop area and reported to shop manager or president. A replacement will be issued. <br />All equipment is to be operated within its limits by trained and qualified employees. <br />1. Hand Tools <br />Inspect all tools before use. Defective hand tools shall be removed from service. Tools <br />should be kept in good condition — sharp, clean, oiled, and not abused. <br />Do not throw tools from one location to another, from one employee to another, or drop <br />them to lower levels. <br />10 <br />
