•
3. SUMMARY OF SITE ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES
Petroleum hydrocarbon impact has been identified in the soil and groundwater beneath the
Apache Plastics site and former Sunland service station to the north. The following sections
provide individual summaries of available data regarding assessment activities conducted to date
at each site. Approximate locations of former USTs, soil borings, and wells are included on
Figure 2.
3.1 Former Apache Plastics Facility
In 1976, Apache Plastics installed a 1,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) beneath the
sidewalk along the northern property boundary. The UST was used to store gasoline.
Assessment of petroleum hydrocarbon impact was initiated in August 1989. Several consultants
have been involved in characterizing petroleum hydrocarbon impact at this site. To date, a total
of twelve groundwater monitoring wells and four soil vapor wells have been installed, and
thirteen exploratory soil borings have been advanced at this site.
i • Western Geologic Resources (WGR) installed groundwater monitoring wells MW-1
through MW-4 between August 28 and September 26, 1989. The wells were installed to
depths between 65 and 68.5 feet below ground surface(bgs).
• WGR installed groundwater monitoring wells MW-5 through MW-7 between June 8 and
12, 1990, to depths between 69 and 70 feet bgs.
• BSK and Associates (BSK) installed soil vapor wells VEW-1, MP-1, and MP-2 between
October 28 and 31, 1991. These wells were installed as cluster wells, with each well
having separate screened intervals at approximately 30 to 32 feet bgs, and between 59 and
65 feet bgs.
Remediation Services, Inc. (RSI) conducted a soil vapor Extraction pilot test utilizing
wells VEW-1, MP-1, and MP-2 on between December 17 and 19, 1991. Extracting soil
vapors from well VEW-1, RSI achieved an effective radius of influence of approximately
25 to 30 feet.
• The UST and associated product pip ing-were removed on August 11, 1992.
• BSK properly destroyed monitoring well MW-1 on May 4, 1992.
p:Apache Plastics\Repons\Apache SCM.doc Page 4 ✓r'tratua
