6 Field Methods and Procedures 6.1 Field Procedures The field procedures used for this TBA are presented in Appendix D of the TBA SAP and as follows: • Environmental Response Team SOP#2050 Geoprobe Operation • Environmental Response Team SOP#2043 Manual Water Level Measurements 6.2 Soil Sampling Procedures All sample locations will be recorded in the field logbook as sampling is completed. A sketch, if needed,of the sample location will be entered into the logbook and any physical reference points will be labeled. If possible, distances to reference points will be given. Once the soil sample location has been determined, a surface sample will be collected using a trowel. After collection of the surface sample, a hand auger or a direct-push drilling rig will be used to advance the boring to the desired depth, as described in Table 3 (Appendix B). Samples for TPH-g and VOC analysis will be collected directly from the ground or hand auger using EnCoreTM sampling device(or equivalent). For non-volatile constituent analyses,the material from the hand auger will be then be placed in stainless steel,plastic,or other appropriate homogenization container,and mixed thoroughly to obtain a homogenous sample representative of the entire sampling interval.The homogenized sample will be placed into 8-ounce or 4-ounce glass sample jars. If a direct-push drilling rig is utilized, the removed soil tube liner from the desired depth will be cut, capped, and submitted to the laboratory in the soil tube liners for non-volatile analyses. The sample containers will be capped, labeled, and placed in zip locking plastic bags. All samples will be placed in coolers and chilled with ice to 4°C for storage and shipping to the analytical laboratory. Duplicate soil samples will be collected from the same sampling interval in the same manner except the soil will be split into two sample containers. Duplicate sampling for volatiles will involve collecting co-located samples from the same sampling interval using an EnCoreTM sampling device. Soil samples will be collected in accordance with the following standard operating procedures contained in Appendix D of the TBA SAP: • Ecology and Environment, Inc.
